Idiots put Obstruction at Sea on Purpose!

Well, I am a bit staggered to read an advertising promotion has gone wrong and a 30 foot long floating bit of junk is out of control near the Caribbean islands - no one knows where!

Quote:
30-feet long message-in-a-bottle, which uploaded pictures while crossing the Atlantic, has gained attention worldwide, but last Sunday the bottle lost its satellite connection. Now the bottle is in the proximity of the Caribbean islands and the company behind the project is asking people in the area to keep a look out for it.

Caribbean News Now!: Caribbean residents asked to look out for world's largest message-in-a-bottle

I wouldnt be surprised if this isnt an infantile dangerous publicity stunt within the stunt.

If the sat link has gone down maybe the nav lights and AIS has too, and radar reflector if its not passive.

At least it has navigation lights and and transmits ais information. Better than a vessel abandoned without lights and no ais.

Rule still applies. Watch where you're going!

Wonder what kind of "unsinkable" material it's made of? Would matter if you were to run into it.

Re: Idiots put obstruction at sea on purpose!

Does the message read "WATCH OUT!"?

Since it is not "Under Command", can't anyone that comes across it claim salvage rights?

If you see it, get the nice equipment, and "scuttle" their ad campaign. Otherwise anything you do will become part of this stunt within a stunt.

A 2.5 ton bump in the night killing or sinking someone would not be the best publicity, but you know what they say in today's world; "no publicity is bad publicity".

Having publicly launched a large obstruction, they are certainly liable for it. I wonder if their insurance company likes that idea?

I would consider that illegal dumping. That thing is just a large piece of litter. Fines should be forthcoming.

I gotta admit, if you manage to hit that thing (with its lights on), you sort of deserved it.

Thanks I needed a good laugh but then again I'm not sailing in that part of the world.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

At least it has lights and a radar reflector. This was towed out to sea and left floating off St. Lucia:

Mark,

Go get it. It is worth over 3000 bottles of Solo. Maybe they ferment some how.

Uh huh. And, as we all know, 3,000 bottles of Solo is almost worth a six-pack of Corona.

1) Buy shoddy boat
2) Sink shoddy boat by running into bottle
3) Sue company
4) Retire on a brand new Swan
