How to fix teak siding

This boat was damaged in a storm. How would you fix the teak rubrail and gunwhale?

Also, how difficult/expensive is it to re-bed a ss stanchion?

The integrity of the hull to deck joint is more worrysome than either of the stated problems. Have you tested it to see if it's still watertight? That & inspected it for obvious damage. As it would suck to get the wood fixed, & then find out that the much bigger problem hadn't even yet been discovered.


For the wood. Remove the bad bits, & scarf/bevel in the new. Possibly with a tie piece. And I might add metal strakes on top of the the gunwales. Depends on the profile of the hull, & how far the rub rails protrude out past everything else. Though based on the damage, if they're not too tough to fit, it's worth looking into.


Stanchions are reletively easy to re-bed, so long as the fastners are accessible.

I don't see anything too bad. It will be expensive if hired out. If nothing is leaking it's cosmetic. You can patch in a piece of the lower rubrail, or remove the whole thing and start over. Depends on what you really want.
