Re: Getting 2 Masts From Michigan to Florida

Well with this sign-off

> gloom n doom and fear tactics used by government agents.

I guess not worth discussing this issue with you,

but for those with more greenie awareness and respect for regulations, can anyone give feedback on this rust-prevention method?

Do facilities exist where this could be done legally and without deserving eternal damnation as a polluter of our Mother Gaia?

> In the past i put trucks onmy outdoor hoist and sprayed hot waste diesel oil under coat on frame and underbody. It seeps into frame rails etc. You can laugh but it works better than any commercial undercoat. Yeah it will drip but so will a GOOD Ziebart job .

> To OP , spray clean warm oil under your truck with a wagner sprayer , watch your weather window, wrap your spars, and skidaddle .

Sincere question, and not meant to incite disparaging responses from those who think such concerns for the environment are overblown.

Highway rules don't limit mast lengths. They do, however, limit overall vehicle/trailer lengths.
https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/FREIGHT/pub..._rpt/index.htm
There's a good start for you on federal standards, noting that some states limit a tractor+trailer to a length of 48' for a commercial rig. For non-commercial rigs, you will have to look up the regulations for all 62 venues and check each one of them. For a lludge like a trailer or RV with a mast strapped on top extending over the tow vehicle, you've got to check all 62 venues.
No reason I should do that for *you*, it is simply fair warning to the OP to know that there may be issues with state laws, and that each state has their own limits.

Pretty much no one ever questions old waste oil dripping out from under a vehicle, but yet, as the first drop hits the ground, that's a federal violation even if it isn't a state one. One, a sticky mess that will bind dirt and grit and road salt to the underbody. Of course it sure is the cheapest way to get that result, if you're into short-time economics.

I was thinking of the location where it's being applied, waste oil running off the property or getting into groundwater

Re: Getting 2 Masts From Michigan to Florida

At 56 feet in length one is likely exceeding the standard length limits, hence will probably need to obtain extra length State permits for traveling. Obviously the load is modest in weight, assuming the custom trailer is also lightly built.

Millions of cars and trucks travel on salted roads routinely without issues.

They are dumping tons of deicing compound on all the roads of North Carolina as I type in preparation for the coming winter storm so as to ease the snow and ice removal after the storm passes through.

I live in Montana, the roads are rarely if ever "salted" instead they place small rocks / pebbles, some would call it sanding but in reality the stones are larger than sand. The pebbles and larger stones aid in traction, but are especially good at busting windshields. Never had a vehicle that has not had at least one of its windshield busted at least once, typically two or three times. Some cities will place deicing compound on dry roadways near the intersections in anticipation of an icing storm to aid in decreasing the glaze ice formation to enhance stopping and propulsion from a stop, but I have yet to see any city coat the roadways in their entirety. The highways and interstate freeways are NOT deiced.

Quite a few smaller cities don't even bother to plow as they don't own any plows, you just get used to driving through deep snow until it packs down into thick ice which is when driving gets a bit slippery. Hardest part is trying to walk across the roadway with out cleats or chains on ones boots or shoes because it is like stepping onto an ice rink.

Check the regulations of each state that you will be driving through and obtain the appropriate permits and oversized signage and lights and go for it.

There is already a trailer for them that the current owner used to drive them up there from Florida.

It overhung the vehicle a bit to keep the total length under the acceptable limit.

I don't want to take my truck into the salted roads. For a lot of reasons it will cause damage to the truck.

Option are renting a truck and doing the trip or having the masts shipped.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Anyone know good places to talk to regarding shipping the masts?
You need least 53 trailer ,if you go over 4 feet from last point off trailer you need oversize permit,Permit it is not expensive, but need to have
