Entering the US on a private yacht

Quickly and simply put we are a British couple who have bought a cruising catamaran and intend to cruise the Eastern Seaboard of the US and Caribbean over the next five years.

Boat is and will live in Georgia when we are not aboard.

Just back in UK after a quick visit to look over the boat and make plans for an early 2016 re-fit and then off cruising.

One of the last things I need to arrange is a B2 visa for myself and my partner. We have visited the US many times using an ESTA on the VWP.

I don't think we will be refused our B2 visa applications but I am interested in anybody who has come and gone from the US as to what they have done regarding obtaining a visa.

The following embassy link states that to enter the US on a private yacht you must have a visa

Visa Waiver Program & ESTA | Embassy of the United States

Any information would be of interest.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard.

You must have a B1/B2 visa.

No 'if's', not 'buts'

Re: Entering the US on a private yacht

Thanks Mark

I have done some further reading and it seems that it is a most definately a requirement.

Let's hope that helps with my application and doesn't hinder it.

The fact I need it doesn't mean it will be granted, sadly.

Regards

Richard
