+1. I grew up in the water, mostly Puerto Rico and the Canal Zone. You are more than likely looking at marinas or anchorages where most people flush overboard. NOT swimming in places like that. JMHO.

Re: DO YOU LIKE WATER?

hmmmm, ........... and here I thought sailing was just a way to get to the best snorkel spots!

Yeah, typically Sea of Cortez water is not that warm... too deep and all those wonderful currents that keep the sea life plentiful! The water is probably 63 degress until after march/april. Warm in Sept or so then gets cool pretty fast in November...

Re: DO YOU LIKE WATER?

I like to swim, but for the most part, it is a tad cold where I am for doing it without a wetsuit (48-50*F/9-10C).

This is one cool question!

Even so, I still have some fear of water.

Re: DO YOU LIKE WATER?

It's about water temperature. I go swimming once a month here in Puget Sound, regardless of the temperature outside. I find that a grey day in January can be spiced up a little when you take a polar bear swim, and run back into the cabin, with the heat on. What a thrill!

No! Don't like being in the water as a general rule. Like being on the water in a tight boat/ship.

I find it odd that so many people who own sailboats, don't actually seem to want to get their feet wet.

I'm with MP, being on the water is better than in the water which is why I have a boat.

But I have to go in the water today - barnies on the prop again

We swim when the water is clear and there is something to see eg. On Great Barrier Reef. Tend to avoid getting wet when in croc filled rivers, stinger laden murky beaches or Great White Shark territory.

I have recently started diving on my own boat. Primarily to get a bit of exercise.

I rent a tank from a scuba shop here. The first time I asked the guy if he wanted my padi card. He said, "no need. Everyone I know who has a boat knows how to dive."

Still swim as much as possible when the water is warm enough!! Ya don't swim much down the bayou where we live, just to many Nasty things in da water ya know !!Gators, snakes, sting rays, spiney cat fish ect ect !! But we always get some swiming in when we go fishing off shore and get to the Blue water !!! still love water for swimming but don't care for it in da boat !! LOL

Maybe the water's cold where you are? Here in Florida, virtually all the sailors I know also love the water.
