Crossing to Bimini

We are at Key Biscayne waiting to cross to Bimini. Hopefully tomorrow is a go - anyone else making the trip?

Re: Crossing to Bimini

After years of reading, I finally signed up (too much sniping on these forums :-( ) just to ask you what weather you're looking at? We'll be making the trip at this time next year so I'm watching it very closely, looks like steady north winds? Just wanted to know what made you decide this was the time?

Re: Crossing to Bimini

Hey, Im from Kemah a couple of years ago.
!2kts or less N wind is ok. Leaving from south of Miami, we'll not have to battle the stream so much and have a beam reach.

Re: Crossing to Bimini

Thanks. I can use some more input. Passage Weather site looks like 10-15, and I allways expect more, at least around here. I've just always heard any north wind is bad, but then it's been from the North for a LONG time! And lots more to come. Please let me know how it goes :-)

Have you crossed the stream yet????

We are waiting in Stuart Fl for a window, but we are looking to go through the Bahamas and out to longitude 65 then south the Caribbean, so we are looking for a longer window.

I subscribe to Chris Parker and have been listening daily...... Very poor forecasts for crossing the stream....
Regards,
Michele

Re: Crossing to Bimini

We crossed on Sunday the 18th and it was quite rough - 6 footers plus and ENE winds to 25. We are in Bimini now and waiting for a window to cross the banks.

Thanks for the update, glad you made it safe! I've seen very little written about sailing across the Banks, please post up about that too! I wonder it's it like Galveston Bay (similar depths) or what?
