Brisbane to Gladstone

The biggest (two) races of the year up our way are under way. Mono and Multi Fleets following (almost) identical courses, though the Multis start 10 minutes after the monos. Light breeze, but nevertheless Team Australia (TRI) is well ahead of everyone, and doing nearly twice the speed of the first mono (Black Jack - nee Telefonica)

Cost a lot less than Black Jack as well did Team Australia

It might be fast, but it is still ugly to my eyes.

Not to worry Coops, Team Australia passed every racing mono, but they didn't have to look at it for long before it was out of sight.

The fastest of the beautiful sleek maxi monos with the diesel engine powered canting keels will not be admired, because they are still sailing and will finish in the dark of night. Pity that!

Re: Brisbane to Gladstone

If I am honest the "beautiful sleek monos with canting keels" are also ugly to my eyes, so this is not a multi/mono thing at all, merely an old fart who likes pretty boats. Speed is ok, but not at the sacrifice of looks.

Unfortunately I have neither speed nor looks.

You obviously know little about things. The best looking always wins, do you not go to the movies?

Yes alright, fast is good in a race, but surely something can be fast AND good looking. Maybe yourself as an example.

Personal thing of course - aesthetics. I thought Team Australia looked amazing. I thought Black Jack also looked impressive. Mind you I still have an issue with motor boats in a sail boat race.

Here it is Sunday Morning and the poor bastards are still days away from finishing, no wind is no fun
