Anyone with Experience buying a boat in Australia?

We are US family looking to buy a boat in Australia and wondering if anyone has experience with this?

The buying the boat part is super easy..... I’d imagine no different to buying one anywhere else.

Where it might get *interesting* is when you transfer the registration. Pretty much all states here require state registration if staying longer than x number of days (usually 90), but won’t let you register unless you are legally a resident of said state.... so, if you are buying and staying a while, the experiences of those like Jim and Ann Cate are important info....

OTOH, if you are intent on buying and sailing away, do whatever required to US flag/register as soon as you take possession. You could even sail state to state no problem as long as you avoid the time limits.

As Jim asked, what do you need help with and also, which part of Australia are you planning on visiting/buying in?
