Acrylic Hatch glued will not come out

Acrylic Hatch is a flat 12 by 14 piece of plastic glued on four
Sides by silicon glue.

Will not come out.

Am going use heat gun.

Then cut up the hatch in strips. Don't need save hatch.

Was going use force but don't want remove gel coat as well.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

Like below or a steel guitar string and two dowels to split the silicone?

There is an L shaped blade used to remove the caulking around car windshields. Should work.

Re: Acrylic Hatch glued will not come out

A heat gun won't do anything to silicon... most silicon RTVs aren't affected below 500F (260C) or so, some higher. The acrylic, and probably your gelcoat will soften much lower.
Use a sharp, thin blade like a sharpened putty knife, or what others have suggested, to cut the silicon. Then shave off as much as you can of what remains with a sharp wood chisel, then abrade with sand paper into clean gelcoat to get rid of all of it(almost nothing sticks to cured silicon!)

I use Debond Marine Formula. Spray it on the silicone (or 5200 or any sealant), wait 5 -10 minutes, and then pry at it with a putty knife. Then you can scrape up the remnants with a razor blade. It leaves the gelcoat alone. The stuff works amazing.

What I want to know is what, exactly, they used to glue that acrylic in there, because I can't get anything to stick to mine.

Most manufacturers use Dowsil 795 to bond the acrylic to the fiberglass. Good stuff.
