Keys

I made the trip Jan. 08 and started from Ft Pierce and anchored every night except when I went under 5 mile bridge and motored all night no wind to Punta Gorda ,the whole trip took 4 1/2 days.
The trip up from the 5 mile bridge was in a channel that the chart said was 7' but the dept gauge on my boat said 5' most of the time,I never touched at all maybe because of all the grass on the bottom gave me a false reading on the depth my draft is 4'10'' but like I said I never ever touched.
Any other info I can help with just ask.

I am trying this post again don't know what happen first post.
I left Ft Perce on a Monday and stopped at Lake Worth Monday night and than down to No Name harbor late tuesday night and than to Rodriquez Key early after noon, should have looked for closer anchorage to 5 mile bridge we got to Rodriquez key early and did have plenty time to go more but we made good time wind and weather were very good.
Left early thursday morning and went under 5 mile bridge around 10 am and motored all day and into night until friday around noon when we got to Punta Gorda Marina.
Traveling from 5 mile bridge my chart plotter said we were suppose to be in 7' channel but my depth finder kept saying 5' with my 4'11'' draft but could see the bottom grass and never once touched bottom so maybe the grass gave a false reading.
I did see other sailboat move pretty fast not even in the channel.

Are you referring to the Seven Mile Bridge or the Channel Five Bridge? There ain't no such critter as the "Five Mile Bridge".

Maybe it's the part of the old bridge they left up! Did you know that that's what they blew up in the movie "True Lies"?

Re: Passage Thru The Florida Keys

My mistake channel 5 bridge but any way both channel 5 bridge and 7 mile bridge are 65' and would think vary depending on tides.
My mast from water to top of mast is around 57' to 58'

Re: Passage Thru The Florida Keys

Thanks all.. that confirms that for me..just have to plan well.

Speaking of planning ?? I have a 47 ft CAT with 24ft beam, 4ft draft. Anyone recommend marinas and anchorages available to me...yes got guides, but not written for my boat. Also experiences gulf and Atlantic side for Dec 15th to Jan 5th timeframe.

Appreciate any feedback..

Hi Seasaddler

You've been helpful before... Thanks

Making the run from Miami to Tampa next week..
Can't find any marina space.. Can you recommend good places to anchor from Miami to channel 5 ... And maybe in the gulf side.
Thanks... Appreciate it
