Normans Cay Boats Stolen?

I just had the mate of a megayacht next to us tell us that 3 boats were stolen last night at Normans Cay. I have no idea if there's any truth to it. Supposedly it was a tender, a sailboat and a powerboat. Has anyone else heard anything like this?

There's a Norman's Cay in the Exumas Chain in the Bahamas. It's fairly popular with cruisers.

It was in the Bahamas, the BVI continues to be one of the globe's safest waters to sail and by the way I would never take my family to a place like the Bahamas after reading on line their local news...it is as scary as Hialeah in the Miami area

There is no place completely free of crime and/or theft. Nassau is a large city and has its share of crime.

In general however, the Bahamas are safer than places I go in the US. There have to be over 500 boats, maybe much more, that cruise the Bahamas every winter. It is RARE to have a problem.

Big expensive outboards are a tremendous temptation.

I don't have statistics but I would bet you stand a better chance of having your car stolen in the US than your boat stolen in the Bahamas.

To JC - perhaps you are trying to scare people away to have the Bahamas more to yourself? A little transparent, but I so appreciate the sentiment. If you are serious, go ahead - stay away and tell everyone you know to stay away too. More for me!

Normans and highborne cay are a half hour ride on those boats from Nassau. Nassau is infested with crooks and thieves. Its no wonder. This really has no affect on the cruisers. Unless you're cruising in one of those go-fast boats.
So i just hope we don't group this incident into piracy report that ends up detering people from pursuing the cruising dream.
By-the way, folks at Highborne cay marina are thieves themselves 6$ for a bag of ice. (small one too)
