Just arrived in Bonaire

Well with tropical Storm (about to become hurricane) Dorian bearing down on the lesser Antilles it was time to move to safer waters. So late yesterday afternoon I arrived at the Harbour Village Marina on Bonaire as I had arranged for a slip last week before heading out after looking over the sat images and storm development forecasts.

I sailed directly here (more or less) and the passage was great, fair winds and gentle following seas. The marina has excellent services and the WiFi signal is strong and fast. Before leaving I spoke to several other boats but most had not yet decided to bug out preferring to wait until the storm track was more defined. I hope they fair well if they decided to stay because the window to move on has passed.

Good luck to all of those in Dorian's path.

Better to be safe - Besides that , you had a nice sail and now get to check out Bonaire until it blows through. Will the return trip be all up-hill?

You said "I sailed here". Did you go single handed or was that just a slip of the pen/mouse/keyboard?

Yes I solo sailed down here and yes it will be a beat back, but it is not a difficult sail north to the southern Bahamas in mid to late November if you take it is small hops.

I have a Lady scheduled to arrive around Thanksgiving, right now we are set to meet in Aruba and then sail north for the winter.

Good job. Nice easy sail to Aruba from there. That's a nice boat you have. Friend of mine is looking at a Gunboat 60 (couple of years old). I'm a mono man but they really do interest me.

Youre so close to Colombia, and Panama, San Blas, why not continue?

Been there, not a fan. The last time I was in Columbia I was riding around in a heavily armored SUV and stayed in a hotel with 2" thick bullet proof glass.

Panama was nice until the ChiCom's took it over, while they are not so prevalent in the Caribbean side their influence is present.

Re: Just arrived in Bonaire

It is obvious that you have not been to the Panama Canal Zone recently or know what to look for.

When and where was that? Colombia has changed a lot in recent years.

While most people are allowed to go about their business unencumbered every western foreigner is scrutinized. If you are flagged as a possible western (especially a U.S.) intelligence operative or former operative you will find yourself being questioned by Panamanian officials and there will be a ChiCom officer present.

It is likely we live in different realities within the same world.
