Getting home to Miami

I'm going with my father this May from Miami to the Caribbean for my first trip. He will be staying longer then I will. I was planning on walking into Freeport/Marsh Harbor the day I had to leave and buying a one way plane ticket to Miami. I don't want to prebook in order to be flexible with the weather.

How feasible is this plan?
How expensive?
Are there local pilots willing to shuttle boaters?

Any help much appreciated.

I think there's a ferry service that runs daily between Freeport and Fort Lauderdale.

Re: Getting home to Miami

I assume you mean Freeport OR Marsh Harbor? There are airports and flights to FL from both places. I would not just show up at the airport to buy a ticket as the flights are small planes with very limited space and you might just show up on a day when all the seats are filled. I would at least make a reservation before dropping in. Costs one way about $250.

You might catch a ride with a private pilot but would be catch as catch can. Wouldn't use that as my plan A.
