Charleston to Norfolk

We are lying Charleston and must get above 36 degrees latitude by June 15th. We were thinking offshore but are open to suggestions for routes and destinations. We are a 30 feet ketch drawing 5.5 feet.

Re: Charleston to Norfolk

Two basic options, ICW or outside, take your choice.

The only suggestion I can think of is if you do go outside you might want to duck back inside for the last leg from Beaufort to Norfolk. Slightly shorter and gets you around Hatteras shoals.

Re: Charleston to Norfolk

Chas to cape fear, time it for daylight on the flood tide at cape fear. Quick run up to wrightsville, then out masonboro to Beaufort or cape lookout. Since you're asking here, I'm calling it a much better option than around frying pan. It is very direct route to Beaufort, assuming you plan to go inside Hatteras. You're a long way to the Gulf Stream there at chas and no real benefit to hiking out. Besides, if your offshore experience is limited this is a great way to do a couple of jumps, without the commitment of going all the way from chas to cape Chas around Hatteras.

There's fish out there. Not to state the obvious and this iPhone app won't let me reference when traveling. Boilerplate passage, great experience.
