Bareboat wanted for FL -> Cuba and back

I'm looking for a company that will charter a sailboat for a FL -> Cuba (and back) trip. I've chartered before, have lived on sailboats for decades, and have sailed all over the world (including thousands of blue water miles). If your company (or one you know of) does this please let me know. wiseleyb@gmail.com (or, reply to this thread of course).

Extremely unlikely that any Florida company is gonna do this.

Casual tourism is still not legal and a USA registered boat wont be covered by insurance.

Your nationality?

Ah... good to know. I'd heard they were going to be starting up ferry service again so I figured it might be "as open as the rest of the Caribbean".

I'm an American

Not yet...definately not for USA Citizens/boats. Search forums here for recent discussions and visit the State Department's web site for current specifics.

WHEN DO YOU WISH TO GO? I'm in Florida on my own vessel with Canadian registry.

I see on another Forum post that a Yacht Club has organized a legal fleet sail to Cuba, sailing craft only. Will not be long hopefully that we all can sail legally to Cuba.

Good luck. It would, most likely, be cheaper to buy a boat, sail where you want and then sell the boat. Take the Ferry.

Or take one of the many flights that are available. There are, and for several years have been, numerous direct flights available from Tampa to Havana.

You could just fly in through Mexico or Canada and charter with Dream Yacht Charter. Friends of mine did just that in March.

Also true for the proposed ferries. Also true for any other way of getting there.

Re: Bareboat wanted for FL -> Cuba and back

I have sailed to Cuba twice.
Of note is that you could fly to Havana ( from any number of places) and take a van to Cienfuegos on the south coast where there is a marina at the Cienfuegos Yacht Club which has a number of charter boats including Catanas and Voyages.
At that point you could sail to any of the archipelagos in the south such as Cayo Largo and Jardines De La Reina. While we were in Cienfuegos we saw several charters go out. It is run by a french guy that we met who was very helpful to us on arranging a van for our exploration by car since we sailed there.
The other option is there is a person in the Caymans who has a sailing charter service to Cayo Largo.
I do have the names of both on my boat but will not be back aboard for a few weeks.
Good luck.

Re: Bareboat wanted for FL -> Cuba and back

Hi adlib2,

I am also interested in sailing from Florida to Cuba, ideally this August. I and two collaborators from graduate school are working on a project about Cuba that will culminate in an art exhibition in February. Would you be interested in sailing us there and back? We could provide a modest sum for the journey.

Please send me an email or reply!

(And anyone else who might be interested!)

Thanks
