Re: All you can eat crabs on the Chesapeake bay

If you want the best come to Washington and eat Dungeness. A short sail through the canal. Worth it.
Best are at the mouth of the Columbia.
Went to the casino and had all you could eat (plus prime rib & salmon) for $25. A bit more than one crab goes for retail at this time.

For a quick outing from Annapolis:

Waterman's in Rock Hall
Crab Claw in St. Michaels
Buddy's in Annapolis
Mike's in Edgewater (watch the Rt 2 bridge)

You can get crabs already steamed from Annapolis Seafood Company and eat wherever you like.

Cantlers is a pit. The current second-generation owners are coasting on the reputation their parents built. Only tourists go there and they don't go back.

Dungeness crabs are delicious but they are not the same as blue crabs. Two very different tastes.

Thanks! The local library has a few copies, so I've got weekend reading

Yes. Dungeness is better. LOL. Has to be fresh. Bornstein Seafoods, out of Astoria Oregon, sells a 5lb can of fresh (never frozen) big upper leg pieces only for about $130 (plus Fedex). Incredible. I have had fresh (out of the water) King Crab. Not bad either.

I forgot to add Kentmorr and Hemingway's (as well as Buddy's). And the "crab part" of Fisherman's Inn is called the Crab Deck.

Re: All you can eat crabs on the Chesapeake bay

Made me hungry... so we went to Thursday's on early Friday afternoon

Then we anchored overnight in the Rhode River, along with a bazillion SSCA boats during their Edgewater GAM... and by chance, at least 3 other boats from our own marina.

Somewhere in there I also heard a short VHF discussion about a flare demo between (probably member Scott Berg) and USCG MD NCR...

Interesting few days.

FWIW, Thursday's fried backfin crab cakes (less work than picking even the largest crabs) were decent. Not as good as Edgewater Restaurant's jumbo lump broiled cakes, though...
