boom measurements, stack packs and blue crabs!

Ok. Wife called bacon sails to get prices for their stackpack. I looked at it in person and it looked good to go in regards to quality. I do know from experience that sometimes items have a funtional flaw in their design. Has anyone here ordered a stack pack from bacon sails before. tonight I gotta go measure the boom for the stackpack nd then we are getting crabs!

Figured there might be some with some customization ideas for things you have added to or removed from your stack pack. let me know if you have the time. TIA

Hi Boatsail,

I am considering getting one as well, so I hope you get some good input from the group here.

Cheers, Bill

I've made a few of these and looked at many different designs when repairing in the past. One of the main week points is the attachment of the lazy jacks to the cover, it is best if the lazy jacks attach directly to the battens as opposed to webbing sewn on the cover etc. If the cover is attached to the boom by boltrope it pays to have some mesh vents sewn in so it doesn't hold water and go moldy. It is important to be able to get to the front of the sail for reefing while still keeping the whole sail covered while at he dock, some have removable fronts although I prefer a zip down the front and flaps which tuck back into the cover while sailing.

Re: boom measurements, stack packs and blue crabs!

I just got back from Bacon sails this morning. Talked to Gary. Great base of knowledge! Very helpful guy. He gave me the sheet for measurements along with some pointers. I will be putting on my new main to take the measurements. Will report back again once it comes in and is on the boat.

Also, ordered a jib bag from Lee sail covers, not in yet, but figured that both covers kind of go hand in hand. Can't wait to get all this stuff onto the boat!
