Can anyone help ; looking for a marina berth in the eastern Algarve

Eastern Algave? There are only six marinas along the complete coast. Going west to east you'll find Lagos, Portimao, Albufeuira, Vilamoura, Olhao and San Antonio just up the Guardiana River. There is also a small yard up the Tavira.
You can get a view of each via Google Earth, get phone numbers from the web. They all speak English to a phone call would see if berths are available.

I can recommend the marina at San Antonio. Besides being comfortable and secure, it makes it easy to move between countries to avoid establishing residency and tax liability. The full name is Vila Real de Santo Antonio

The algarve is particulary expensive in my view. Morocco is a better bet.

You'll usually find the cost for July, August and September was 50% the annual fees, so the cost of staying for the other 3/4 of a year is half that.

Still not cheapo - but lots pay it.

Most expats tend to head off sailing elsewhere those high season months - or choose not go that time of year. They are hot months so many haul their boats into the adjacent Sopromar yard and stay away in a cooler climate!
