Thread drift, I know, but if you are considering Albania and Montenegro check out the World Cruising Wiki at http://www.cruiserswiki.org/wiki/Albania and http://www.cruiserswiki.org/wiki/Montenegro. We came up that way last year and updated most of the harbours, so it's more up to date than most of the pilot books.

I will study this. The clearance in and out sound a bit of a pain. Greece has made a little lazy. Is it worth the bother ?

We didn't bother to clear out of Greece (but then we didn't plan to return). I imagine that as long as you don't return flying an Albanian courtesy ensign no-one is likely to bother you.

Clearing into Albania is painless if you use an agent - which is probably best in most of the harbours if you want a quiet life rather than having to negotiate with non-English speaking port and customs officials.

Similarly, clearing into and out of Montenegro is straightforward (though it's one of the few places in the Med where they do ask for proof of competence, e.g. an ICC).

Is it worth it? I'd say definitely. While we weren't bowled over by Albania, it's very different from Greece, and Montenegro is quite spectacular - especially if you hire a car and explore the mountainous interior.

we will definitely give this some thought.
we are quite keentoget off the Beaten track and explore new places, whilst avoiding the crazily expensive and crowded areas of the E med.
