Not impressed that someone would put himself in that situation and then somehow expect the system to come and get him. If I am not mistaken it is middle of winter there now.

Also what's that nonsense about doing things non-stop (see guardian article), he was nicely tucked away in a Fremantle marina just 9 days ago according to the tracker (see earlier link). 9 days ago it would have been possible to get an early indication of some windy weather ahead, might as well have waited, wasn't non-stop anyway.
Hi, from your bio you are in the med so perhaps things are somewhat different there, however here we accept that everyone is allowed to follow their dreams and if the Sh**t should hit the fan then they are entitled to seek assistance. As to the non stop claim that you have made, I believe that it was unassisted, not non stop!

Re: Solo Sailor In Distress

At first reading I thought it was meant to be 'non stop'.
Given that it wasn't he would have been better advised to have stuck to the north of the Bight and waited for 'weather windows'.
I am more than a few hundred kilometres inland in north east Victoria with squally land gales just now. The sort of day when I was glad to be ashore and not at sea in the day job on Bass Strait.

Bit confused here - unassisted but not non stop?
How does that work?
https://www.thelittleaussielap.com/tracker
An ill conceived venture.

new bit.. zoom out on the tracker and it seems he planned to sail south of Tasmania - in July?
Oh Ok - he is from Queensland - nuff said.

Allowed: yes. Being responsible for one's own safety: also yes. He was in Fremantle marina 9 days prior, could have thought things through a bit.

Non-stop claim: not mine, Guardian's. Please read my wording carefully before stating that I am making claims.

Re: Solo Sailor In Distress

he's trying to do things no one else has done (youngest, fastest...smallest)
..already been beat up...yet he was back at it again (to only get his ass beat again)

the kid funded himself via his own hands (hull cleaning/detailing)...and has did spent the last 2 years doing a complete refit himself.

i got major respect for the kid

all this experience he's getting at that young of an age is invaluable

...his bio reads like the origin story of a future all time sailing great.
..and i can easily see that (greatness) in his future.

There are old sailors and bold sailors, but precious few old bold sailors. Perhaps there's a seamanship lesson here?

...let us not ENTIRELY forget, that once, in times long bygone - - -

we were young & hotblooded too, sometimes being passionate about attempting not-entirely-rational endeavours...

& not entirely because of our acting-o-so-responsibly, most of them turned out well.

(kudos to the young, that do not spent all their time between instagram, FB & Twitter, but venture "out"...)

(& as to "the taxpayers dollar now has to get his a$$ out of a sling": umpteen times more taxdollars are spent keeping people alive after a life of overeating, overdrinking & under-working out!)

Re: Solo Sailor In Distress

Just listened to an interview with the sailor.
It sounds like his setup was more than appropriate for the task.

He recounted that he was in big waves when he hit something - most likely a sunfish - that caused a knockdown plus injuries.
Water started coming in and he made the decision to call for help.

Well, maybe his ground crew can rescue it before it goes ashore.

A mate of mine is trying to get me to sail him out there to grab it.

He's crazy too.

Maybe not, give it a few days and it may come to you.

Hey, Matt, the early bird gets the worm! I bet you've never tried to tow a wounded boat far before. What could possibly go wrong?!!

Well, the conditions were rather nice, but we did tow this Columbia 34 a long way.

Re: Solo Sailor In Distress

I once encountered an engineless by choice blue water yacht called “white horse of Kent” and its jovial captain, Colin.
There was a catchphrase back then in the cruising fraternity...... “ we have all towed Colin!!!
