Smile 17 Year-Old Solo Sailor

Hi, I'm brand new to this site and look forward to reading and posting now and then.I picked the username "Passing Wind" because it was the name of my sloop a few years back.I noticed the newspaper article today about the 17yr old Zac Sunderland who just completed a 13 month Solo around the world trip. It reminded me of the story of Robin Lee Graham who also sailed solo around the world. both Zac and Robin set sail at the age of 16.Zac did it in 13 months where as Robin took his time, staying in ports for long periods before completing his trip in about 4 yrs. Zac had a 36 footer for his trip. Robin did half his trip in a little 24 footer.half way through his trip National Geographic gave him a 33 footer to complete the trip. A movie was made of Robin's trip some of you might remember called "The Dove". been looking but haven't found it on dvd yet.has anyone followed both teens trips? i'm looking forward to reading Zac's book and seeing his dvd about to come out soon.

Welcome to the forum,
I too followed Zac trip, the timing of his trip really impresses me as much as his age. I work in an OR (nurse), at the start of his journey I told everyone at work about him. Every couple weeks someone would ask "Hows Zac?" So I was the official zac update person for my Hospital He seems like a neat kid with a good head on his shoulder. I remember watching Dove, Have you tried amazon? Have you read Tanya Aebi's book (Maiden Voyage) about a young girl sailing around the world? Lord, if anyone had a lucky star it was her. Anyways, welcome.
Erika

Thanks GordMay and Ocean Girl. Like Ocean Girl, I also work in Surgery (Liason for O.R and Sterile Processing). I love reading solo and family crusing books.I'll find the book about Tanya, i'm sure i'll enjoy it.
I once met Robin Lee Graham back in late 70's early 80's. He came to San Diego to give travel log and lecture about his trip and house built in Montana.
Thanks GordMay i'll look up those links! Good readings all!!
