Old enough to have fallen for scams before. Plus the fishy smell.

I'm older than you and it just seems like a not particularly well written ad rather than a scam. Did you text them to find out more?

Anybody have any reasons to think it's a scam other than gut feeling?

Is that a . . . bathtub? On a boat with 170 gallons of potable water and no watermaker. What am I missing here?

Check the original poster's info. Just joined the forums, only has one post, and that post is a for sale listing. If it were legit, the OP would probably respond by now. I guess "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" applies.

the price does seem to be very low, $35k for an 18 year old manta 60-70k would be more realistic with all the extras the boat apparently has

this one is listed at 138K,similar age etc

Plenty of folks join the forum just to sell something, and don't check the thread just wait for PMs, emails or calls.

So far the the only semi-convincing reason to believe it's a scam is the price. All the other reasons just make me go hmm and want to keep an eye on the thread and member.

If anybody want to text them and let us know what happens, feel free to go ahead.

Re: 1997 Prout Manta

Definitely a scam. I recognize the name aby.roman1974. Here is a reply from "her" when I inquired about a CT42 on sailboatlistings.com. If this is not a scam, I don't know what is.

"The age of the rigging is approx 4-5 years old. As I told you in my first email, I will leave in a week to Edmonton, where my husband got a new job. Because of the short time that I have left and so many things to deal with concerning our departure I have signed a contract with eBay to take care of the selling on my behalf. The boat is already at the shipping company in Galveston, TX sealed and ready for the shipping. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 7-9 days, depending on the exact location. You will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don't like about it you can send it back at my expense. If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask eBay to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. eBay will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the confirmation that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller. If you would like to receive the email from eBay with all the transaction information please reply with your full name, shipping address and phone # and they will contact you right away. "

that is an awful lot of bubble wrap and packing tape they are going to have to use, makes you wonder if there isn't an easier way of delivering an 8 ton package with less plastic packaging
