I think they're trying to hold onto their solar panels.

About the Video (Frying Pan Shoals)
"This ocean cam is affixed to the Frying Pan Tower, 34 miles off the coast of Cape Fear, North Carolina. The tower was built in the 1960s to warn ships of the shallow waters nearby."

Re: Hurricane Florence

Tried to post earlier, but it did not go through. Located on Broad Creek, just north of Oriental, NC. Prepped Boat on Wednesday, then took her out and anchored in a somewhat sheltered area. Storm surge was predicted at 9 to 13 feet, so I didn’t consider docking an option. Luckily winds so far are not as bad as predicted, but storm surge looks bad. Back inland now, hoping for the best. No power and limited communications in the area. If anyone has recent info on how the area is fairing, please post it.

Glad to hear you ar OK Paul. Sounds like the worst has past. Winds 80 and falling. This could have bee much worse.

We are in Chaguaramos Trinidad. No surge, no wind, no worries. It rains and it is hot.

Re: Hurricane Florence

We have some dear friends, liveaboard, who moved from Beaufort to River Dunes Marina on a road Creek. They are trusting the docks to not float off. Here’s hoping their trust is well placed. They did evacuate to well out of the area, still the boat is their home.

I think I would have run up to New Bern and anchored out in the mud of the river. I don’t think the wind would be too bad and don’t care much about the water level on the hook. But that’s just me.

Or in Mexico and the Sea of Cortez, where I spent a good number of summers, sailing and cruising and, yes, dodging hurricanes. Did get hit by Marty in 2003, but made out OK.

Re: Hurricane Florence

I am about a mile or two up the creek from River Dunes. I too am worried that the storm surge will cause the floating docks to float too high or bust up. I am anchored in soft mud with nothing behind me.

New Bern is under 10-13 fit surge. That doesn’t include what coming down the river from run off ...
Here’s an interesting article...https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/...oons/700517145
IMO the worst has yet to come...

We stayed in River Dunes during Irene and were fine. The surge was similar this time, but the winds were not nearly as bad. During Irene, the guy on the boat behind ours clocked winds at 110 sustained and 115 in gusts at the mast head. Being near the mouth of the Neuse the surge does not tend to be as high as southwestern shore or up at New Bern. The pilings at River Dunes are 11 feet high and the surge was only 9.5 feet at Oriental which usually gets more surge than Broad Creek. It is quite scary looking as the top of the floating docks are over a foot above the water so with 9.5 feet of surge the decks are pretty close to even with the tops of the pilings. We just got word on facebook from someone at River Dunes and everyone is OK there.
