Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Obviously that one is a joke, but even if it weren't I'm not sure I would consider it a "worst picture." Worst boat, maybe, but at least the picture makes it perfectly clear what condition the boat is in.

What I consider a "worst picture" are the ones that show you absolutely nothing useful in terms of deciding if you are interested in the boat or not. They are so far away, or so close up, or so out of focus, or so full of other clutter, that you learn nothing about the boat from them. I guess with the completely cluttered ones, at least you get a sense of what the current owner is like, so maybe that tells you something.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Back in the '60's, the Seattle Times charged for classified ads:
One line, seven days for one dollar.

I used to look at the boats for sale column and often I would see gems like this:

Boat. Floats. [phone number]

Sorry, don't want to hunt back through 700+ posts. Which one are you talking about?

Edit: OK, I just followed the links back. You mean this one:

Ouch! Looks like it was designed by the same people who designed the Edsel. Nice tailfin!

Granted it looks terrible is the enclosed pilothouse a bad idea?

I was worried because a boat I am considering has an enclosed pilothouse.

Pilothouse is a great idea for more northerly latitudes. However, for sunny climes the glass means in the inside will be hot unless shades are used to keep the sun off.

Whether that example is with $500k is open to debate. I thought it was Ferro before reading the advert.

Thanks for the explanation! I was wondering if the enclosure was making it hard to perform the regular tasks and such. Makes sense the enclosure would be hot in the sunny climes.

I would also ask myself, what happens when a following sea breaks over that giant beaver-tail on the back?

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Well after looking at a few dozen boats in the last few months, I can pretty much confirm the saying that, "Boat Photos Lie". Time after time the photos in the ad and the verbal description of "excellent condition, turn key, sail away, and lovingly cared for" are just synonyms for "project boat".

But in the end my daughter bought a nice Newport 33 in So Cal for the asking price. When a boat is priced right, they sale quickly and it eliminates the need to dicker with price (remember that when you goto sale your boat one day) We will help her get it ready for the move to Morro Bay in December. She's excited to liveaboard on her own...at least until she can't call dad over to unclog the head...oh wait...she will be an a mooring near us, I bet she still calls me!
