Should an anchor chain be connected to the earth bonding system?

The anchor locker on my Grand Banks 42 has a bonding wire at the bottom, its not connected to any part or any thing in the locker. Should it be bolted to the anchor chain as well as the chain being secured to the inside of the locker by a rope?

I posted this question on the Anchoring forum but only received one reply, I have now inspected 2 Grand Banks 42s and both have grounding wires connected to the plate where you secure the anchorchain in the anchor locker.

Personally, I would say Oh Hell No! Earthing the anchor chain would make the zinc galvanizing sacrifice itself when anchored. Way to expensive a earth/ground in my book.

I asked the question because Grand Banks have installed a bonding wire into the anchor locker and bolted it to the steel anchoring point where you secure the end of the anchor chain. It seems strange to me but GB have been building boats for years and I thought they knew something I didn't!

I sent an email to GB asking them that question a few hours ago and when I receive their reply I will let you know their reasoning.

Sounds like they have bonded the metal attachment plate just like the other metal parts of the boat. It is common practice to attach the bitter end of the anchor chain to the attachment point in the chain locker with a section of nylon line that is just long enough to reach the bow roller from the attachment point. You can then easily cut away your chain rode with a knife while on deck in an emergency. The nylon section also insulates the chain from the bonding system.
