Refrigeration

I have a keel cooled Frigoboat chest freezer on my boat which is set at -2 C
this unit is supposed to switch off when it gets to -2 C and switch back on again when it rises to 0 C, the problem is it never gets to -2 C so the compressor is constantly running which is a big draw on my batteries.
I am sure there is enough refrigerant in the system so any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem.

Re: Refrigeration

It may be your box, not the Frigoboat system. Has your box ever gotten to -2 C? Is it capable of keeping the heat out to get down to the temp? What temperature does you box get to? If you set the thermostat to that temp, does the system turn off? If it does, you've just confirmed the Frigoboat system works fine, and it's your box that can't do the job.

Re: Refrigeration

Are the present environmental conditions the same as previously when it worked properly?

When you feel the liquid and suction lines near the compressor is the suction line cool? cold? sweating? or frost?

How much sea life is on the keel cooler? I would dive and clean that off first.

Re: Refrigeration

Other possible factors:
How big is your freezer (~ cu. ft.) and where are you located (what's the air & water temp)?
