What kind of receptacle boxes for the AC circuits are acceptable? And where would one get them? Not the household ones I'm sure as they would corrode in a short time.

Plastic boxes would be the ticket but do they have Lowes and Home Depot in Canada?

They have 'shallow' plastic (blue) box's that are particularly handy.

?? We just have surge sockets on extension leads (the leads are hidden) throughout the cabins. That solve the corrosion issue AND helps avoid any issues we might have with electronics blowing if we hook up to an unreliable source.

How does it solve the corrosion issue ?? , and by the way surge protectors only have a limited number of uses before bring useless

Well, since they're made of plastic, they don't corrode. And whilst their effectiveness may not be unlimited, it's better than nothing! (In fact, maybe THAT's why so few boat laptops last very long - cos yáll don't use surge sockets?)
