best option for replacement inverter-charger

I posted recently about my Mastervolt combinmaster 3000/120, which mysteriously went dead after 3 years of very light use. I've tried to get service, spending many hours on hold and sending mulitple emails, to no avail. So I guess I have to throw it away and buy a new one if I want 120 on the boat this season.

I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about buying another mastervolt given my inability to get service. I'm looking at Renogy and Victron as alternatives. I'd appreciate any thoughts or experience on these models. I'm really interested if they actually have service in the event of a breakdown. I can buy 3 renogys for the price of a non-servicable mastervolt so even if I can't get it serviced I figure i'm ahead.

options?

Mastervolt combimaster 3000/120 / nearly non existent service / $2300 cdn

Victron Energy MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50 120V / service ???? / $1800 cdn

renogy 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger w/ LCD Display / service ??? / $715 cdn

Thoughts / experience? other options?

Victron. Not only do they make good stuff there is a large DIY community so good for getting answers and info.

That renogy unit though does have a good price. If there is any chance you may have a more complex system (multiple MPPT, DC to DC charging, etc) in the future I would go victron because their stuff networks together but if this is relatively stand alone that renogy pricetag is hard to beat.

Re: best option for replacement inverter-charger

Victron has some good inverter/chargers, the MP 12/3000 has been tried and tested for many years, and interfaces easily with both Victron and non-Victron equipment. Perhaps also have a look at Studer-Innotec units (https://studer-innotec.com/xtm/).

If you decide to go with the Renogy unit, based on the experiences of others with Renogy products I suggest to check whether you have sufficient fire insurance...

We have a 24V version of this one, for about a year now, so far all good.

I think I learned that service comes from the local dealer... and in our case, that's our installer, too. Haven't had to learn much more about that yet, but when I had questions about settings they sorted that out for me.

There's an online forum, too... haven't tried that.

Re: best option for replacement inverter-charger

I avoid Renogy at all costs. I received a DOA inverter from them and had major issues with RMA. Rod Collins if MarineHowTo also has a caution on them related to underperformed against stated specs.

I have a Magnum 3kw hybrid charger/inverter and am happy with it. I have other Victron kit and am happy with it. Just wanted a standalone charger/inverter without the entire ecosystem.

Re: best option for replacement inverter-charger

I just recently purchased a KISAE / Abso 2000w - 100Amp Inverter Charger connected to 2 x AGM Mastervolt (270 Amp Hour each) Batteries. Total investment abt. $3500. I also bought an external battery monitoring system from RENOGY with data screen, shunt & cables off of Amazon.com for $68
I installed the system myself and to my amazement......everything works fine.
540 Amp Hours works well for three (3) people on board, running all of our 12v demand and our intermittent 120V galley demand. We even run 120v fans all night long no problem. Batteries have not gone below 70% after a typical day and night.

I have a barely used Xantrex Freedom XC Pro Marine 3000/150 which I can sell for $800; or $900 with Remote module (with Bluetooth) and Temperature sensor.
