Yes, that's what it means.

In actuality it means that there is more than one way to do things. Pretty much everything on a boat is a compromise. Far too many people want everything on a boat to be "right" or "wrong". It really depends on each persons needs and/or perspective. I for one enjoy seeing and hearing all of the different approaches. Sometimes we can actually learn something by trying , or re-trying, something different.

Yes, I absolutely agree -- change is good.

However, purporting it to be the be-all-end-all while you were producing something totally different last 30 years did not make sense to me.

In any case, due to the sharp corners everywhere, this is a dangerous boat for me and my pax, so it is totally out of my list.

I will let the experts discuss the rest.

Are we multihullers becoming so mainstream that, like our deep keel brethrens, we have become resistant to new designs, and change? Do the words "unsafe" and "ugly" ring any bells?

Interesting (and very relevant!) observation that...and one we observed on other boats but can't recall hearing about the L39 previously.

So in our view CC, it places you firmly inside the "experts"!

This is how soft corners used to look just a few years ago. I really like it.
Now everyone seems to be doing the sharp corners.

This is off thread, but we're kinda curious who's "everyone"? Like you (and others, obviously) we too really like the soft corners. Are hard corners now in some sort of fashion?!?

Sadly, yes as of 2010 most production cats are going with square hard corners.
It may be an in fashion, but I hope its a short lived one.

Just takes a bit of grinding to take care of those corners.

Also the Lagoon rig aft is a bit like the Prout, but not as extreme. A Prout Snowgoose had maybe a 9' boom. I'm sure the lagoon still has a 13-15' boom, but just much different than 20' or so on previous models that size.

All of a sudden the fun stops and your hours and miles away form medical help. You fend for yourself out there and it may not be so good.

This is a boat, you are not standing on solid ground. Some commotion is the norm, not the exception. Elderly parents, kids, passengers, friends... Someone can very easily trip or fall and hit those edges.

I will definitely choose safety over design. Even though L39 is fixing most of the issues I am having with L380 (some safety related), it's introducing something even more dangerous with sharp corners everywhere, so it is totally off my list.

As my search widens, I am finding more and more clues that common sense is not so prevalent in sailing world. They might be ok for seasoned sailors, but definitely not for beginners like me.
