I've noticed over the years of living on boats that nothing is a problem until you make it a problem. Reefed sails are cool.

Re: Skipper and First Mate

Hi! I think that the owner wants to lease/charter his boat, on a long term basis. The part that is messing up this deal is the cost of maintenance and upkeep. Instead of paying a set "rental fee" for the duration of a charter, WITHOUT paying maintenance and upkeep...in this situation there is NO rental fee, but you'll assume ALL maintenance and upkeep cost during your stay. Unfortunately, financially speaking, this will exceed any normal charter agreement; much much higher cost than just "rental fees". Good luck in your search!

Hello TecNav, How would maintenance and upkeep costs exceed the cost of chartering? If that were true why are there chartering businesses? Please clarify.

Got any pics.

Is there a contract length?

Who decides what needs maintenance and when?

Hiya Souci! How old is your boat?; year of manufacture. I need to calculate a feasibility study, when I have some spare time

Time is negotiable. The skipper should know what and when maintenance should happen. On some boats the mate would know.

Hiya Souci! Your boat is 31 years old; it is too old to be placed into chartering. Most charter boats are 5 years of age or younger. The boat's value ranges from $45K to $70K USD. A complete Preventive Maintenance for this age, will cost about $26K-$35K USD. Good luck!

Re: Skipper and First Mate

Poem
Sanssouci has a boat he loves,
but cannot cruise or keep her up.
So he hopes to find
a couple in kind
To board the boat
And keep her afloat
To see the sea
play and sing
Pay the fees
And scrub the teak
Making Sanssouci happy
his boat is safe
And loved
and not
Rotting away.

.think of it like a lease Am I close Sanssouci?
Hope you find what you are looking for

Re: Skipper and First Mate

A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The audience was different each week so he did same tricks over and over. The problem was, the captain's parrot saw all the shows and began to understand how the magician did every trick. He started shouting in the middle of the show: 'Look, it's not the same hat. Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table. Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?' The magician was furious but, as it was the captain's parrot, he could do nothing. Then one day the ship hit a partially submerged container and sank. The magician found himself floating on a piece of wood with the parrot.

They glared at each other but said nothing. Finally, after a week, the parrot said: 'OK, I give up. Where's the boat?'
