In Shape, Organic Dude looking for Crew

To summarize, I did the whole college thing and corporate job world awhile back and have since woken up to the truth about the system and have been on an organic path ever since. With me you get hard work, passion, truth and organic ways. I have no experience, but I'm looking to learn and train with the right crew. I'm a fast learner, handy, and in shape.

I'm not sure if there are any sailing clubs near you, but finding either that or a yacht club on a race day would be a great way to start learning how to sail. Once you prove to be an asset to the crew, you'll have no problem being invited back or invited on bigger adventures.

Re: In Shape, Organic Dude looking for Crew

The best way to help a sailor is to know what he or she needs help with. If you know nothing, they have to stop what they're doing and explain everything to you. It can be a total drag when you need something done quickly and correctly. I'm still learning and have been sailing just over a year, but I know enough that when someone tells me to do something, even if I don't know how to do it, they can explain it to me using complex terminology and I can do it. If you're not willing to get out there and at least learn how to sail dinghies it will be tough finding someone willing to show you everything. You've got the right mentality in wanting to help someone, but it's not a selling point that you know nothing and won't get out there and learn on your own. Good luck!

I'm not just looking for sailing though, any type of clean energy boat.

Re: In Shape, Organic Dude looking for Crew

Questions for the OP:

Where are you located?

Are you looking for day-sailing, longer passages, or both?

Are you looking for something in any particular geographic region?

If you're interested in passages, are you financially self-sufficient to do so?

Boat/ing knowledge isn't the be-all and end-all. A boat is a small space to share with people, so also important to know about captain and crew are things like: Do you talk to much? Too little? Can you stay awake all night to keep a watch? Are you a good cook? Views on drinking during a passage / willingness to abstain if it's a dry boat? Will you freak out if you can't shower for 3 days? Can you get along with people with differing political/religious/etc views? Dietary restrictions to consider when provisioning? Are you good at fixing things (e.g., a diesel engine, an outboard, leaks)? Good at fishing? Diving? "In-shape" is definitely good information; I'd just add more information to make a crew résumé for your profile or website etc.

Fair winds!

Re: In Shape, Organic Dude looking for Crew

Have you looked into getting a small boat of your own? Maybe a sailboat with an electric outboard?

I hope you are successful.
