Whitlock Cobra Pedestal Steering

This is a BRAND NEW Whitlock "Cobra" pedestal steering system.

Google it to see what it looks like and how it works.

No compass, no controls, no pedestal guard, no steering wheel.. Just the basic pedestal, all the internal gears and shafts and the lower drag arm.

This is a gear driven assembly that uses a solid shaft (not included) from the lower drag arm of the unit back to a arm on the rudder.

Extremely strong and totally fool proof. Works very well with Autohelm type autopilots.

We bought this years ago as a spare for the unit on our boat and no longer need it.

The "Cobra" on our boat is 38-years old and has never broken or given us any trouble. A great, simple indestructible steering system.

$350.oo plus shipping, or come and pick it up in New Bern, NC 28560

I can take PayPal but you pay all the fees.

Re: Whitlock Cobra Pedestal Steering

What year was the Whitlock manufactured?
Was it new when you purchased it?
I have a Sigma 41 built in 1986 in England which has a Whitlock pedistal and am interested in yours if it is the same as mine which I believe is a Cobra. Can you email me more pictures?
My son lives in Beaufort and could check it out for me.
What is your best cash price?
Thanks,

Re: Whitlock Cobra Pedestal Steering

Sorry to be so late in answering - I had a dead computer thanks to a Windows 10 automatic upgrade (watch out if you do it!!!!!)

As I remember I bought it as new-old-stock in about the 1988-90 time period.

If you can come meet me at my storeroom by North West Creek marina in New Bern (about 45-minutes from Beaufort), he can help me take it down from the very top shelf and we can take all the pictures you want.

Again, as I remember, this is the same model (Cobra) that came on my boat when it was built (1978/79).

The pedestal unit with all the gears in it are "as new", maybe a couple of scrapes on the paint - not sure. No compass, no pedestal guard, no throttle controls. I do have the new stainless steel arm that gets welded to the shaft that comes out the bottom of the pedestal.

Take some pictures of yours and send them to your son so we can compare your unit vs mine, but I'm pretty sure they will be identical. Measure the bolt pattern on the flange that holds the pedestal in place - we can then see if it will be a direct fit.

Best price, with your son's help - $300 cash or PayPal as a "gift" (no fees).

If this sounds good, send me another PM and we'll do contact info.

Being happily retired I can meet your son any day of the week, any time during the day (days better so we can see what we are doing).

Don't have him come on a rainy day, since I have to empty the storage unit to get to the Whitlock!

Doug
