Re: perkins 4.108

saw your notice. Who did the rebuilt job? Any idea what a removal and installment may cost.? I presentally have installed a 4-108 and am having cooling troubles. I will check the freight cost.

Thanks
Joe

Re: perkins 4.108

a former employee of nelson's marine in alameda ca did the rebuild. for 4 or 5 years he did all diesel / engine work. last i heard he still has his shop in the east bay.

if u r pulling a 4-108 and replacing it should be pretty inexpensive as a straight swap but i cant speak to prices down in san antonio.

shipping to you is a bout $250.

have other questions?

Re: perkins 4.108

update: transmission is a Velvet Drive 10-18-006 ratio 1.91:1 (which is about $2500 by itself).

Re: perkins 4.108

Glad you sold the 4-108.

Just curious: what made you decide to replace the 4-108 with a saildrive?

Regards,

Bill

Re: perkins 4.108

a bunch of reasons...

1. the 4.108 is big and heavy and overpowered
2. the perkins was in the galley which made it unbearable loud and hot below deck when it was running
3. the newport prop shaft comes out 30 degrees port which is just crazy and a pain in the ass when trying to reverse
4. PS (pre steve) they removed all the tanks when replacing the sole and finished the sole without replacing the tanks (making the galley the PERFECT place for the tanks)
5. a transom that is just begging for a motor
6. sail drives put out a lot of charging power
