Hobie Cat parts?

Hi. I'm fixing up a Hobie '14 to learn how to sail with. Needs a tramp and two rudders. These are expensive if you buy new OEM. Anyone know where I can get used stuff cheap? Thanks

I'm new here. A little about me: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...rum-21455.html

Hi, Robinson.

Check out these links--you might get some leads:

Hobie Fleet 20

Hobie Cat Fleet 20 is based in the Bay area, so you might want to connect with those folks.

p.s. I owned a Hobie 16 for many years. It's a great way to learn the ropes and a heck of a lot of fun.

Craigslist St. louis had one listed that had been neglected. Don't remember if it had the rudders.
There was one listed craigslist Jefferson City Mo had one listed with soft hulls but pretty much complete if I remember correctly.

Same

Robinson welcome to the forum. We have been going through Hobie cats for 25 years at a cabin on Clear Lake California. We have had great luck getting used parts both on Ebay and the forums previously mentioned. A lot of these boat have been let out in the sun and are getting soft. Just push on the fiberglass decking right in front of the tramps on each hull. Not too hard. We end up with lots of spare parts when we condem the hulls, but all our stuff is 16's and 18's.
Did you know the 14 was the original design of beach cat by Hobie Alter and Phil Edwards? It got some award of boat of the century or something like that in a magazine once. It put more people on the water that had previously not sailed than almost anything at the time.....it is an all time classic......:-)

I used to own a Hobie 18. Do you know what Hobie stands for? Has Obviously Become Incredibly Expensive.

I never figured out where to buy cheap Hobie parts but back then the internet did not exist.

Old used Hobie 14's must be relatively inexpensive now. How about the idea of buying someones old boat and using it for parts? That in the long run might be cheaper than buying parts individually.
