Capehorn Windvane Group Discount ?

A couple of years ago, a group of Westsail Owners negotiated a 20% discount on the purchase of their CapeHorn windvanes when they purchased as a group. (I believe 20-25 members were involved)

Recently a few Westsailors have expressed interest in getting another group purchase together. Someone (me) suggested that we may be able to negotiate an even larger discount if more people were involved. Westsail being a relatively small group I thought I'd throw it out to the Cruisers Forum population to see if anyone would like to join us in this group buy?

For now, we are just checking to see if there would be enough interest in a group buy to begin making arrangements?

Based on Yves' (owner Cape Horn) response to previous group purchases, Cape Horn will offer a standard discount rate of 15% for three orders, 20% for 10, and 25% for 15 or more. We are waiting to see if this is still the case.

It looks like discounts are only offered when the quantity is for the same model purchase. Our next step (after hearing back from Cape Horn) is to find out which models people want, and if they are willing to provide a down payment. We will then submit the names to Yves. Each participant is then obliged to send their $500 deposit directly to Cape Horn and wait for their gear to be built.

We currently have eight people on the list. I expect to hear from Yves or Erick in the next couple of days and will email each of the participants details at that time.

I am a proud owner of my Capehorn!!!! Just plucking up courage to cut the hole in the stern. Snowed a foot last night, so still waiting for a temp to do the epoxying.

It looks like a good quality product.

The group purchase discount applies when all the gears are the same, since it costs less to fabricate a number of identical gears at the same time. We could not deliever those discounted gears until the end of July, as my partner Eric, who builds the gears, has decided to take a 3 week vacation at the beginning of July, his first vacation in more than 5 years.

We have five people ready to send a deposit for a "Toucana" model. We have one person wanting a "Spray". A few people don't know the model they want.

Three more Toucanas and we qualify for the 20% discount. I think we should submit the order at number 8 rather than wait for a possible 15 orders for 25%. Any thoughts?

We need two more orders for the "Spray" model to qualify for 15% discount. C'mon big boats, don't leave your brother hangin!

If you need self steering, now's your chance. It may be a very long time before you get another shot at this.

I am not sure about which model I need. I have a one off boat built to the same plans as a Skookum 34 canoe stern. Very similar specs to a Westsail 32. As I look at the website it looks like I should go with the Jean-du-Sud.

Looks like I need the Spray model. If I can assemble enough people to do a Spray model discount, I might go for it. If not, I will wait and try to assemble a group discount for Hydrovane.
