Made it up the mast on Friday. The sheave is gone. Replacement on the way +1 spare. New halyard is needed too as it's damaged pretty bad.

Has anyone replaced their stack pack mine is seen its last days two nice sized tears where lines meet battens. Probably beyond repair. Also un related question Im looking for an easy to single hand down wind sail for day sailing. Id like something to use for short trips day sails mainly that wont take long to set up as im usually only out for a few hours.

I had to replace mine. I looked around to get it done but in the end I took it to the local canvas guy and he was able to copy it. He used the existing parts like wands etc.

I don't know if any of you have had the jib halyard part through chafing at the diverter. I did and bypassed the diverter but my rigger said that is too risky. Allows a wrap around the forestay if the halyard is not tight and potentially a broken forestay.

He fitted a "proper" diverter which has an even curve and says he was not surprised that the halyard chafed given what was fitted - Just a s/s ring.

Hi Martin,
Of course we had the same problem and noticed this the first winter.
I talked to the riggers of Fountaine Pajot about this. They said the diverter is indeed mounted to prevent the halyard turning aroun the forestay in case of insufficient tension on the jib halyard.
Since it is not my custom to sail with too low jib halyard tension, I left the halyard outside the diverter. This has worked well for 4 years now.
I would not worry too much about the theory of risk of forestay damage, unless you have the custom of putting a lot of force on halyards, reefing lines and so without looking up to see what happens...... of course preferably with an electric winch! (-;

I also sailed with out the diverter for a few years then when I had some work done on the mast they put the halyard back through the diverter. I did not realise it and it chafed through again!

As the rigger was doing some other work for me I had him fit a better diverter to be on the safe side.

He says electric winches generate a lot of business for him!!

Im currently considering getting a gennaker, screecher or code zero. I want something i can keep up and deploy whenever without the set up time. I have the spifurl with factnor 2500 furler and its fine for long passages but takes time to set up and take down for shorter trips which are mostly what we do. Doyle sails is recommending a screecher with seldon continous furler $$4100 US because it will sail higher than Spi giving more range but less help down wind. Mack sails is reccomending code zero because they believe the screecher and genoa overlap in same range and code zero will give me more downwind options for about same price.

Any thoughts or suggestions anyone using either of these options or different ideas and does the pricing they quoted sound in line?

The trouble is that the names don't seem to be consistent. I have the FP standard "Gennaker" which is good from about 55-60Deg through to 130 then it collapses. Very useful and I goosewing it when dead down wind.

I am thinking of gettingf a symmetric chute to complement it,
