Orana 44: Interior Improvements

Seems like the Mahe owners have been very busy posting ideas on improving the interior layout of their FP design; can we start sharing ideas for the Orana? Please provide description, general cost, and photo(s) of your ideas!

We have got the Maestro version of the Orana and we have to omit the interior layout (as well as the exterior) is pretty much optimum. We could do with some more ventilation in the boat, particularly which can be left open when it rains, but haven't got any real ideas.

I have thought about taking the big table away and replacing it with a smaller one and so increasing the effect of open space even more !

Here are some ideas to expand space on your Orana, Maestro version.

We needed more pantry space, so we sacrificed the seat in the starboard passage (across from the outboard narrow closet) and pulled the face of the opposite, inboard and very shallow cabinet out about 10 inches, giving us a deep pantry for dry and canned goods. We do not miss the seat, and love the convenience of a readily-accessible pantry. The face panel needs to be carefully sawn across the horizontal base of the seat, using a narrow and flexible fine-toothed saw. You can see the new gap-filling veneered wood, hidden under most conditions behind the opened door leading from the salon down to starboard hull.





In the salon, we added shelves to the cabinet inside the main salon sliding doors (our freezer, as you will see in a subsequent post, is in the forward starboard hull compartment).

We re-designed the inboard forward starboard bow space to accommodate a washing machine and a freezer. We love our Engle freezer, which is stingy with the amps and keeps things well-frozen. Our washing machine model is an Ariston Splendide, and while some owners have managed to get this model through the passage door, we elected to cut a square hatch above this space, just aft of the inscribed circular hatch provided in the mold, for both light and to lower the machine through. We added a swinging top over the freezer which serves as a workbench for me, since I also store all of our tools, etc. in the outboard shelves of that space.

We needed more storage space for clothes and office/bathroom supplies, so we "discovered" huge gaps on the inboard sides of both sides of the master bedroom's bedside cabinets. By removing the headboard, we could access this space (the side cabinets are siliconed, so so deft tugging is required).

We then cut our some access ports, and had custom-sized Starboard boxes made, and then screwed in ... we have lots of space now for T-shirts, underwear, shorts, etc.

Also, we installed some shelves in the large cabinet just forward of the bed, for our office and bathroom supplies.

Finally, we installed a shelf high above the MBR desk for our ham radio, since we use it sparingly, and did not want to clutter our salon with the hardware. This also allows us to use the starboard shroud as an antenna, and to ground the radio to the through-hull used for the starboard head (we replaced all the plastic thru-hulls with bronze).

Any of you guys know what interior panels have to be removed to get to the level sensor in the water tank ?
