There are limitations on what you can do. Moreover, the cost could exceed the benefit. If Gordon is selling her Orana and you can afford it, don't hesitate..
Orana is newer design and in every new model FP has made big steps forward, not only in terms of space utilisation, but also in terms of overall ergonometry of the boat, short handed sailing ability,etc.

Orana is the first model with all the winches brought to helm station, huge hard bimini, etc. and you will really appreciate them. Bahia doesn't have these features..
But Bahia in overall sailing slightly better, probably thanks to her tinner hulls. So, yr call..

Meanwhile, yesterday they brought a brand new Eleuetra 60 ft for A/C installation. This model had been launched quite some time ago, hence, has an outdated design. It cost close to 1.6 Mio USD and I wouldn't trade my Orana with her. Like Belize and Bahia the main sail winch is at the buttom of the mast, the genoa lines on each sides and has a very small hard bimini..Inside, just a bit larger..
Buttom line, in FP range go for the newest model possible, even if it's used (provided that it's well kept) or smaller in size. (inside volume of Orana is way larger than Bahia, even though it's 2-3 ft shorter.

I've had my 99 Bahia for 6 months now. No has been able to answer this one yet. What are those 1/2 rings on the sterns outboard of the boarding steps for?

Simple - They are there to trip me up when I return from a bender and try to jump abord your boat.

Don't stop at just figuring out why those rings are there. What about the two that are mid-ship on the inner hull just above the water line.

Hope all is well in sunny Florida. Have you been able to get out much? Any adventures where you said "Boy, I could fix this with a little rigamarole"?

Those rings are for mounting safety lines under the bridge deck along each hull, in case the boat turn turtle and you have to hold on when entering onto the underside of the bridgedeck!! A friend of mine actually have them on his Mahe. He is, by the way a very meticulous and careful person.

Thanks Lucky. I think you just answered Rigamarole's question too. I wsa thinking a Cleat would have been much more useful. They would have stubbed Rigamaroles toes much better also.

Fullsail, the rings you asked about are not for jacklines when the boat is turtle as they would be underwater. They are also to beefy. They may be for rigging a droge.

Has anyone seen a refit of a Bahia in which the 2 tiny heads are turned into one large head?

I have a 99 owners version. Its not a Maestro. It may be a factory customized version. Port hull has one head intact and a washer/dryer and a freezer in place of the other head. Starboard side is owners side. The there is closet space where the aft head would be, the forward head is intact. The fwd berth area is now a huge vanity and shower stall. Works out great for live aboard

Has anyone sailed a Bahia shorthanded or single handed ? How difficult would it be to tack/ manage sails or anything else that is hard to do shorthanded. Love to hear from someone who has actually done it.

I'm pretty sure the loops on the sugar scoops are strictly for handholds as you clamber in from your dinghy. One of mine is dented, i.e. the loop is ss tubing, not solid steel and the fixings are far too light to hang a drogue off...I suggest you use your aft horn cleats for drogues...cheers

Correct Bludden Off topic what is the market like nowadays in Australia for a 1998 Bahia? Have been away 10 years and am on my way back from Spain to Sydneyo hoping arrive mid 2012. Will sell then. Australian reg gen watermaker solar. Wrong location for you I realize but any info much appreciated and or a broker if you know of one. Thanks

Prices listed in Australia for Bahias and similar size Lagoon etc are very, very high. Don't know if any sell at those prices though. I bought in the Caribbean but that was mainly because of so many to choose from and it suited our cruising plans. I don't expect to profit from the eventual importation. If your 1998 is a 4 head, ex charter version, I would think a broker would be listing it at $450 to $500,000; more for a Maestro.

I bought my Salina from the Australian FP dealers, Multihull Solution.
They handle a lot of s/h multihull, but as I said are the FP specialists.
I found them a good mob to deal with.
