SPH File Format

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has access to MapTech's sph file format spec? I am the guy behind venturefarther.com (online satellite chart creation/download) and currently do .kap files but would like to add .sph as an option since they would allow better resolution and transparency.

Re: SPH File Format

Jon, SPH appears to be an audio format from some google searches, but here is mapquest dev https://developer.mapquest.com/demos/leaflet

Re: SPH File Format

I see ChartAid offers the photo chart .sph format. It seems to be supported by a number of charting softwares. GEOTiff is another option but there does not seem to be much support. I suspect that .sph is a flavor of geotiff but until I find the spec it will be hard to create.

Re: SPH File Format

I know this thread is old as heck, but I'm hoping someone has discovered the answer since. I have an SRN navigator in my system and like to program, so I just want to be able to play with then files. If you've got the spec, and wouldn't mind sharing, I'd love it! If I come up with any cool tools, I promise to share (But, honestly, am more likely just to fumble around and have fun with it, since ChartAid seems to solve the problem I actually set out to solve). Thanks in advance!

Re: SPH File Format

77 ...

I did some work with the SPH format but in the end went with GeoTif for making an OpenCPN plugin that provided photo overlays with transparency. The Weatherfax plugin by Sean D'Epagnier provided a template for all this work.

Sending you a PM on the subject.
