S63 Charts wont load

Just upgraded from 4.0 to 4.2. Thanks for the good work!

However, tho' within 4.0 my AHO charts worked fine they do not show in 4.2. The new s63 1.4 plugin is installed and enabled.

No matter what 4.2 would not load the from the same ENC base used previously.

So, I removed the cell permits but now I cannot load them either. Get a "Security Scheme Error window - SSE 13 - Cell permit is invalid (checksum is incorrect) or the Cell Permit is for a different system".

I have tried importing different eras of cell permits including my latest issue. All resulting in the same window.

Bit of a pain having paid for these charts.

Toughbook CF-31 running Windows 7.

Appreciate your help,

Jeff.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

I just answered my own question.

However, I think it valuable to share.

I had trouble downloading a s63 fingerprinter last year due to not having the Toughbook time set to a GMT time zone.

So, prior to downloading 4.2 today I carefully set my time zone to my current location, to Mountain Standard Time.

Guess what, when I switched back to Australian Eastern Time where I installed the fingerprinter I could then import permits and then the charts!

I imagine the fingerprinter is time sensitive. Or, the plugin.

Perhaps Renate and Hubert could make it clear that the installation needs to be made with the GMT time zone set to that when the fingerprinter was downloaded. If this is not correct, then whatever measure is required should be made clear.

If the fingerprinter is time sensitive, it is likely that any change in time zone would incapacitate the s63 plugin with loss of the charts, correct?

Yachts have a habit of moving with subsequent changes in time zones, don't they?

Should we not change the time setting in our computers?

Good work on 4.2!

Tx,

Jeff.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Jeff,

4.2 requires a new plug-in - same as in the case of all the rest of the plug-ins.
The actual one resolves the time zone issue and deals as well with W10 (and the new version mechanism of Microsoft) correctly.

Please upgrade the plug-in, read the cell permits (the PERMIT.txt) and load the cells and everything should be ok.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Thanks for the response, Hubert.

I had already answered my question on Flyspray and tried to post it here too last night.

This time zone thing has implications with changing time zones as we sail eastwards or westwards.

Hubert - are you saying there is a more recent s63 plugin than 1.4.3 that I downloaded yesterday and had loaded before starting 4.2?

Additionally, I did uninstall the older plugins including the old s63 plugin and checked that 1.4.3 was in the s63_ pi folder.

Still wouldn't work.

Without changing anything except the time zone back to Australian Eastern Standard Time I could then Import Permits and then Charts.

This implies that I cannot afford to change the time on this computer without losing these charts.

Below is my post to Flyspray last night -

Re: S63 Charts wont load

I spoke too soon.

Even through last night, rebooting, etc., I could see the s63 AHO charts in OpenCPN

Today I cannot access the s63 AHO charts in any way or form. I Add Directory into Chart Files and see them there, Apply, then Add them to a Chart Group and Scan Charts and Update Database, even Force Full Database Rebuild. Options just skips these s63 charts today.

Different date?

Help!

Should I be posting this to Flyspray?

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Sorry for the delay, Hubert.

I had dumped all the Permits and Charts from yesterday and was reloading them.

Now, as yesterday, the AHO charts open in OpenCPN.

I expect the Install Permit works as it has for the last 2 years and I can load the Permits again today.

It is 0407h currently on the clock.

Should I test the Install Permit?

If so, how?

Would this somehow unlatch the AHO charts?

Tx,

Jeff.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Jeff..

you can test the InstallPermit at the Key/Permit tab of S-63 under Charts.

If changing the time zone breaks the InstallPermit we have a regression.

You have your charts (= the AHS set) on the hard disk? Remember that any removable device can change the drive designator (C: D: E: etc.). This will make the charts unavailable for the plug-in. A second source of problems, but independent from the time zone point.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Hello Hubert,

Yes, the AHO .os63 files are in the "s63charts" folder and the .es57 and .ehdr files are in the "s63ENC" folder under C:ProgramData:OpenCPN, on the Toughbook hard drive.

This is where they wanted to be installed. Should I move them to the C: drive? (Trouble is then updates won't find those folders will they?)

On the Key/Permit tab I only see New Installpermit.

Currrently, I am doing a Force Full Database Rebuild.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

With respect to the original data I'm talking about the sets your are getting from the your provider (AHS). Those should not move .

To test an existing InstallPermit just click on "New InstallPermit", do not change anything and press "Test InstallPermit"

Re: S63 Charts wont load

With InstallPermit "ok" and in case the charts don't show up you can go then through the standard process of Install Cell Permits (PERMIT.txt) and the Install Cells (ENC_ROOT) directory. Zoom into your area - if not the S-63s might just not appear on the piano.

What you shall test is the case of changing time zones. Change and the please test the InstallPermit again. As said: if this fails we have a regression - an error repaired before that appears again..

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Hello Hubert,

Australian Hydrographic Service recommend deleting Charts every 6 months when installing their bi-annual base set of charts.

Therefore I removed both s63charts and s63SENC folders then loaded my Permits and Charts from the disc of Julne 2015. For the first time with 4.2 the load was clean with no errors. And, all the files had yesterdays Date modified date, different from previously.

And, after the date change the AHS charts are showing fine so far.

I suppose I should try updating these AHS charts using the update files as the charts are June 2015, tho' may just leave that until the June 2016 base install.

Certainly, OpenGL is poison as this cripples the AHS charts. And, the raster KAP charts work better with this off on this Toughbook.

I am currently creating GE2KAP satellite charts for PNG and the Solomons, thanks to Paul H, so will keep an eye on the AHS charts.

Should I communicate directly with you or use Flyspray?

Tx,

Jeff.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

Jeff,

good to hear that you got a workable install now.

Flyspray is ok and if you won't mind perhaps errors here as well or dropping a mail to o-charts.

Re: S63 Charts wont load

I need help

I just loaded and installed the S_63 plugin, then I bought a userpermit.
But now I can't create the my fingerprint neither enter and test my userpermit.
In both case I get the same message in the log :
"ERROR: s63_pi could not execute OCPNsenc utility"
I got also a "MSVCP100.DLL" and "MSVCP100.DLL" missing message but adding these files change nothing
Thanks
Jean Pierre
