Raspberry Screen, power source and housing

The Monitor is a 13" widescreen hdmi Monitor which runs on 12V. I found it on aliexpress, a link to the same Monitor (not the same shop) is this: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/13-3-...StoreLevelAB=0

The sreen will be installed at the chart table in my boat where it is dry and save enough for the screen, watch out, the screen is not water tight. This will be the main screen for the raspi. I use a local wifi and a 10" android tablet as a second remote control and screen with vnc. With the build in realvnc server in jessie I´ll have the same screen on the tablet and on the main screen.
Since yet I used the raspi headless just with the tablet as remote control. I bought the screen now for using it with the radar plugin.

I tested the screen up to 14,2V and I opend it to investigate if there is a voltage stabilisation on the board. I found some, so I think I can use it without some more voltage regulation at the 12V board power.

I builded a small wooden housing around the raspberry (which is in a normal raspberry plastic housing). In the bigger wooden housing there is also a powered usb hub and a 12V to 5V USB (I think 2,5A) cigarette plug power converter. The housing is the box at the right side of pic.

Hi,

forgot to write down yesterday. I measured the current that the screen sucks, it depends on the screens brightness and was in the range from 200 up to 700 mA. Normal ocpn use round about 500 mA.

that isn't very good.

My 16" hdmi display that also runs directly on 12v (11-15v so far no problem) uses 350mA.

My screen cost less than half what yours does, but the resolution is only 1366x768

I think 1366x768 is a pretty good res maybe a little bit higher for a 16" screen, because very high res screens cause text sizing issues and some scaling issues
and they use more power proportionally. I'd rather use thay have power for better daylight use.

yes, you´re right, it´s not the most power saving screen.
But for me it´s ok, I´m sailing in an area where shore power is mostly reachable and the time without shore power is not so long.

I don´t use the highest resolution of the screen cause the raspberry can´t manage this when using chartoverlay and Radar ppi from the radarplugin. It can happen that the pi stop working when using both. When using a little lower resolution it works.

Can you write down what screen you use? 350ma with 16" sounds good.

We use a 13" with 1920x1080, no issues with scaling and uses less than 6W at full brightness (only about 250nits but thats fine below deck).
