MBtiles split screen issues

Hi, firstly let me thank all involved for such a useful resource.
But I do have an issue that I have searched for and not found a solution to yet.

I have a Linux laptop running ocpn v5 and mostly kap files.
With that I can run split screen and have one side showing charts and the other side, on a different zoom level showing satellite view.
Magnificent.

On to my problem
My new Mini PC is Win10 running the same version and I have been making mbtiles for it.
When I run split screen on this I can't get chart on one side and satellite on the other like above, only all chart or all satellite.

There must be a setting I am missing somewhere but as yet I can't find it.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

No such problems here, using Linux. Are you using chart-groups?
If not try that first.

Next is to use a very little used feature in O5 --- the ability to export and import templates. I have done my testing using the template below. Read up on this issue: https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/about/ver500.html

Re: MBtiles split screen issues

I have a very limited test - a single "test" mbtiles chart. There are no problems on my Windows 10 Dell laptop, using chart groups the OpenCPN split screens operate correctly with/without mbtiles as they should.

Chart groups?
No idea what that is.
I have simply dumped them all in a folder same as I did for kap's and rescan/rebuild.

Chart groups are pretty much essential if you have charts from more than one source, sometimes you do have to rtfm.

Re: MBtiles split screen issues

Well, I read and read and read again, shifted files into chart groups and nothing has changed.

I had limited results unticking 'enable chart quilting' in the zoomed out screen but that has its own issues.

Perhaps mbtiles is not for me , as I said earlier, I dont have these issues with kap files.

Oh and Thomas, that templates file shows as a broken file on my end, downloaded twice and tried different readers.

.
It works, keep at it. Hard to imagine how to run a system with different chart sources without groups. No need to move charts . Create a new group in bottom panel, navigate to the folder in the top panel and click add. Click ok then when you right click on the ma7n page the different groups should be there in the menu. It does work and worth persevering with to get it sorted.

They have always been in a file called charts that on Linux was in downloads and in windows was in C: opencpn/charts
Inside that were sub files "cm93", "Indo kap", "Qld MBtiles" etc etc

Following the manual to the letter by storing them in documents file

Re: MBtiles split screen issues

Looks right, so now you should be able to right click back on the main chart and have a chart groups menu item with qld kap etc... Click one and all you should see is the charts in that directory you set up. You must be nearly there

Ok, did that

Zoomed out side is cm93 only
Zoomed in side has all selected

Again, didn't need to do this with kaps but the above seems to be a satisfactory, for now, workaround

Thanks

In Chart Files Tab with c:/charts (don't have this in the list!):
c:/charts/ENC/GC01/
c:/charts/ENC/GC05/
c:/charts/ENC/NewZealand
c:/charts/RNC/GC01/
c:/charts/RNC/GC05/
c:/charts/BSB/Canada/
c:/mbtiles/NewZealand
c:/mbsat/NewZeland

In Chart Groups Tab
e01 c:/charts/ENC/GC01/
e05 c:/charts/ENC/GC05/
eNZ c:/charts/ENC/NewZealand
r01 c:/charts/RNC/GC01/
r02 c:/charts/RNC/GC05/
rCan c:/charts/BSB/Canada/
mbNZ c:/mbtiles/NewZealand
msNZ c:/mbsat/NewZeland

Example only, does not conform to Chart Downloader,
Generally use the Chart Downloader Tab defaults when available.

Alternatively, you can put the mbtiles in with your favorite charts and turn the mbtiles on and off with the Chart Status Bars

Please see Use Chart Groups and Chart Files
