Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Hello Konni,

First I said "Sorry Konni" because in the other tread I have write your name "Komy"

Second, I assure the translation of OpenCPN in French language. Also I am available to translate your plugin in French when you set up ".pot", ".po" and ".mo" files.

Best regards

Gilletarom.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Version 0.905 is out.

now there is a option in preferences to select UTC and local time.
i added a drowdownbox to select swell/waves in meter or feet also.
opendocument (ODT) is in logbook/crewlist/boat available and editable.

i wanted also add COW, but i'am unsure about the right NMEA-sentence.
see: NMEA Sentences | Official OpenCPN Homepage
Can somebody please give me a little help ?

in preferences you'll see that the GPS Auto button is greyed out.
this option is perhaps usefull when cross an ocean. i'm not sure, if this work. what do you think, should i go on ?

another interesting question for me, has somebody problems to create a layout ?

thank's to kiltym, sctpc, dacust for their replies and ideas.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Hey Konni,

Thanks for the improvements already.

Here are some comments from our trip today (most of them are very minor):

Our depth sounder is only good to 300'. So after we are in deeper water, most instruments display a --- for the depth to indicate that it is unknown. In the logbook, it enters it as 999 when it is unknown. This might be confusing to people. Not sure if there is a "code" in the NMEA sentence that indicates depth is not known. Would be good to show it as --- or something similar in that situation.

COW, should really be labelled "Heading", in my opinion. This should then be the course from the compass from NMEA, assuming its available.

SOW, should really be labelled STW (Speed Through Water). Most things I see use STW.

In your new version 0905 I just installed:

In Preferences, I can no longer edit/change the timer Interval. In 0904 this worked OK.

In Preferences, for Weather->Wind Speed, I think this should be a drop-down box with the choice kts, m/s, or km/h? Maybe I dont understand something though.

There are 2 items now for Wind Speed on Preferences, one under Weather and one under Fuel/Water..... ?

Its looking great! If I have more thoughts I will pass them along, but it all worked A-OK today on our trip. Every hour the logbook popped up and was there to enter any additional information. Great job!

My mistake. I think I need to uncheck the Timer box and then I can make changes.... That works OK.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Hello Konni,

You have choice to use "Gal" for capacity of fuel/water. But these unit is not used in France. We use only "Liter". Please, can we choice our unit of capacity.

When we ticked the box "Timer on/off" at "ON", the window of your logbook is at the upper level of display and it is impossible to use OpenCPN at the same time.

Please change this.

Thank by advance.

Best regards

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Hello Mark,

thank you for report.

  1. Echosounder

    this is the NMEA sentence:
    DBT - Depth below transducer 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
    | | | | | | |
    $--DBT,x.x,f,x.x,M,x.x,F*hh<CR><LF>
    Field Number:
    1) Depth, feet
    2) f = feet
    3) Depth, meters
    4) M = meters
    5) Depth, Fathoms
    6) F = Fathoms
    7) Checksum

there is no status field like in MWV (see below)
i assume that the checksum has a value that indicates that there is
no data available, or the depths are in minus, or have a special amount. it's impossible to check this from here, so i need your help.

please open the NMEA dataflow-window (toolbox/GPS/show window with GPS/NMEA data) next time you are sailing in deep water. look for
the sentence start with $SDDBT or $IIDBT (depends on your sounder) and post them. perhaps i can find out which data indicates
    error/no data.
  2. COW label changed to "Heading".
i'm definitely not the founder of the english language, perhaps there are more strange words/sentences in the prg.
  3. SOW label changed to STW
  4. Preferences
if you check the timer, h/m/s are now disabled (grey).
    same with UTC/local timezone.

Weather->Wind Speed is set twice because of GPS on/off.
if GPS is on, logbook uses the NMEA sentence which delivers the
winddata with indicator for kts m/s km/s.
if GPS is off you fill in manualy the data, therefor is the dropdownbox. i place the box in weather now.

    MWV - Wind Speed and Angle 1 2 3 4 5
    | | | | |
    $--MWV,x.x,a,x.x,a*hh<CR><LF>
    Field Number:
    1) Wind Angle, 0 to 360 degrees
    2) Reference, R = Relative, T = True
    3) Wind Speed
    4) Wind Speed Units, K/M/N
    5) Status, A = Data Valid
    6) Checksum

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Looks interesting and it's nice to have some response from the developer.

How does the user specify the file to be used for the logbook?.

Where you use the column heading "Wake" I think you mean "Watch". In English we call that period when a crew member is on duty his watch.

What did you use to capture the videos? That was a nice way to show how the program works.

no need to specify by the user. plugin installs at startup "logbook.txt"
on Win-XP Path to data is on my maschine:
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users.WINDOWS.0\Anwendungsdaten\opencpn\plugins\lo gbook\data

with the Save button you can store for example on a USB-stick as backup
the restore option is not implemented yet.
