Truly this triangular marshy looking thing is everywhere all over all maps.
Is not useful to me.
Ideas?

Not my issue, I also unchecked and they are still all over the charts.
These are triangles with asterisks in them.
So I dont believe everyone just sees this and they are fine with it?
New install linux mint, new install opencpn, fresh download noaa ecn charts.

What are all those 'U' things all over my chart?

Category of Zone of Confidence = Un-assessed.
The feature being rendered is S57 Text relating to 'M_QUAL', called “Quality of Data” in “Mariners Standardy
This is a meta-object describing the quality of data shown. The Attribute of interest is CATZOC, or “Category of Zone of Confidence”.
The value on most US ENC's is “6”, or “un-assessed”. Thus, the 'U'.
Unticking the box “Chart Information Objects” hides the “U” symbols.
For a finer grain control, if you are using Display Category “Mariners Standard”, you can turn this symbol off in OpenCPN by de-selecting the box next to “Quality of Data” in 'Tool Box' / 'Vector Charts' tab 'Mariners Standard' selection list box.
Look in the water and you will see.

I have tried unclicking lots of stuff but the triangle filled with 5 asterisks remain everywhere on all charts where there is water. What is with these dashes on my posts under certain words on this thread?

Ok, the facts are missing the mention of triangles being the same as boxed U.
Can this be fixed in the FAQS?

If I uncheck all in mariner standards, these triangles do away.

But I do not see the finer control of QUALITY of data in the mariner standard list?

there is no Q headed entry, list goes from O,P, to R

And maybe a bug, as unclicking chart information objects does not get rid of it as mentioned in the FAQS.
Showing that in the screen shot.

Ok, did find the 'quality of data' entry in the list, but not in alphabetical order, which confused me...

Uncheck Quality of data in the list of Vector Charts Display symbols.
Good luck.

As I said before. Read FAQ.
If you have some positive improvement please put it into a comprehensible sentence or Edit the manual yourself. (You must be made 'an editor. - not automatic, depends)

Re: just loaded noaa enc, how to get rid of marshy looking symbol

Um, I am not an authorized faqs editor. IMO, the faqs are in need of additional information regarding this..

The upside down triangle with 4 asterisks all can see in my screen shots and they all went away along with rectangular boxed U. So when reading the facts, it mentioned 'u',s all over and nothing about triangles with 4 asterisks.
But if anyone does a google search on odd triangles with openCPN, they will see this thread and know what to do.

Ok I think that is added. Done by cell phone, so please check. I cannot change the order in the list.
