Depending on drivers and especially the available memory there can be differences in speed indeed.

Ivanm...
First things first - Did you relogin to your system so that your session actually reflects the changes?

Re: Help / FAQ

OK, open a terminal, install setserial using
Code:
sudo apt-get install setserial
and post the output of
Code:
sudo setserial -g /dev/tty*S*
Are you sure you don't have gpsd installed and set to automatically acquire the GPS? when you plug the device in and run
Code:
dmesg
does the output end with a few messages talking about it?

Re: Help / FAQ

I went to sea and used O Cpn with AIS, after I changed to Ubuntu, had a few freezes in Windows. The mate loved it (me as well) and in the 4 days never freezed once, no problem whatsoever, thanks to the guys who made this available and keep O Cpn running.
All that I have to sort out is to get my Olex marks on Open Cpn sure will find something soon

Found this:
http://www.oceandtm.com/Olex_Convert_GoogleEarth.pdf

and then you can use GPSbabel to covert from KML to GPX, which you can import using the Route Manger.

Good luck!

Re: Help / FAQ

Andre...
The grib plugin is distributed as part of the main OpenCPN package, no additional download is needed.

Re: Help / FAQ

I made a file in home/$USER/.opencpn/UserIcons for Linux as in the manual but cant see the png files in opencpn to change the icon for marks maybe i did something wrong, in windows there is no problem. It is the same place that holds the conf file and navobj files
