Heat while cruising Caribbean an issue?

My family and I have lived in Central America for two years, but on land. One thing is clear, we don't like the heat of the coast for more than a few days.

Is the heat an issue when cruising? It seems like the cooler months are hurricane season, so no cruising.

The only times I've sweated in the Islands has been in marina's.. purely because they are built in sheltered area's and.. practically windless till a hurricane comes along..
On the anchorages.. no problem.. sometimes even feel a bit chilly and have to close some hatches..

It depends largely in what type of cruising you do, IMHO.

I have no AC on my boat and don't want it - but we never stay in marinas and always anchor or moor. If you're far enough from a shore line and screen your windows between dusk and dawn you can avoid the bugs.

The heat and humidity ashore is another matter. Our favorite groceries have really nice AC....

Re: Heat while cruising Caribbean an issue?

We spent last summer in St. Augustine Florida on a mooring ball (work cause). So, no AC and it was DAMN hot and humid. So, your question is pretty broad. If we had cruised north to Maine then the heat would not have been an issue.

Still, there are times when I would like AC in temperate climates anyhow... like getting the humidity out of the boat once in a while.

Anchored in the Caribbean is always ok because of the tradewinds.
Central Americas Caribbean coast may be different.
