Re: Grib Enhancements

Thanks Jean Pierre, a very nice description.
A possible simple sollution is to implement a tick box for a choice to let the barbed arrows reflect the wind speed in knots if market and if blank follow the chosen unit?

Re: Grib Enhancements

Jean Pierre, I agree with your suggestion and Hakan's.

I guess you did not see PM to you and Serge, now here:
ean Pierre,
Thanks for the note. I entered those items as you suggested.

I have looked at
Quote:
FS#1204,1087,187,1217,1201,986
Only the writer can say if he is satisfied but at least this tasks could have their status modified and noted "implemented in current beta" as it is done for main project tasks ?
1. I can note all of these as implemented in current beta- is that correct?
2. I will test all of these items later today or tomorrow.
3. I may have some questions about a couple of them.
4. I will try to get them closed.
5. Do you want to become a "Developer" on Tracker for Grib_pi I believe that will allow you to change the settings for the tasks to "Implemented" etc. I believe we can do that.
(copying Serge too)

Thanks for doing a great job!
I need to learn how to git push and pull next, for weather_routing etc.

Best
Rick

JP & all...
The wind barbs in knots are a standard (See for example http://weather.rap.ucar.edu/info/about_windbarb.html or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Station_model) Choice is nice, but I don't think it has a place here...

Re: Grib Enhancements

That simplifies things, to just show the standard feather with no unit choice needed.
Those using knots for other settings anyway would be unaware of this issue, thanks.

Pavel..
Very good I agree but since we are not following the standard in grib_pi I thought someone wanted the barbs to change with the unit choice. I'm perfectly happy if we always show them in knots and need no choice.
So just for my understanding, do I need to make a note in Tracker or will grib_pi be changed any way?
Thanks Håkan

Re: Grib Enhancements

Serge closed FS#1204,187,1217,1201,986 already.

I added FS#1087 - Retrieval: Support Airmail's Stepped "Moving" Grib towards a destination, to reduce data transfer as Implemented.

And I can't wait to try it out!! Awesome. Thanks.
Serge will be making you a developer for grib_pi, Jean Pierre.

Re: Grib Enhancements

I've been using the grib viewer for a couple of days now that it is more or less to where I need it to be. Great work guys.

I've noticed a problem with the coloured overlays. If you select an overlay in set up for a particular parameter, for example wind, and then turn on another, say rain, the two are active together which gets very confusing.

I propose that it should be possible to have only one layer active at a time. This needs to be selectable without going into settings so maybe a radio button alongside each item on the main grib panel for shading on/off?

Also the RAIN support for saildocs shouldn't have been closed as if you have a grib from saildocs that was selected using the RAIN paramenter the information doesn't show in OCPN. If you request precipitation data using ACPC (or whatever it is) then it shows up.

Cheers
Chris

I agree but It's also true for multi ISO-lines , multi numbers etc.. and only one check box by parameter type...
still thinking

Will have a look, it doesn't show up in zyGRIB too.
Don't know what data we get with RAIN, but for sure the right parameter is ACPC (cumulative rainfall) .This is the one used in the Opencpn's grib file request

Thanks

I mean just one coloured overlay layer.. Wind arrows, isobars etc.. are good.

Is it possible to take the barbs off the wind arrows so that they display conventionally with just the arrow and feathers?

Chris

Your arrows have point (barbs); which are not conventionally shown and in my opinion add clutter to the display.

Please see attached sectors of screen grabs comparing the OCPN arrows with ZyGrib's (which are what I consider conventional and simpler and cleaner).

Thanks
Chris
