ENCs refuse to update = "no internet" (not true)

So, I've about worn out the keyboard downloading and extracting and starting over with no ability to add these to my charts.

I (think I) managed to get all the RNCs loaded for the East Coast - or, at least, I now have sort of paper-chart looking stuff where there was only an outline.

But no matter how many ways I try to comply with routing or folder identification, I get a startup which fails after a few seconds while warning me that I have no internet connection.

That I am perfectly able to browse (for example, to here) and download email and the like belies that assertion.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong inside "Chart Downloader" - and the RNCs took several tries before I finally succeeded.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or not doing which is causing this?

Where are you getting the error? After you have selected an ENC Region. and then tried "Update"? Or on actually downloading the selected ENC charts?

After I download the charts. I've unzipped, not unzipped, used the URL alone and all the rest, but get the same message every time. For some reason, RNCs came down perfectly.

Are you sure you have write permissions to C:\Program Files (x86)?

Generally it is not exactly a good idea to place any user data there.

It asks me that, and I say yes - but it's the same tree as in the instructions/manual, I think.

However, my putting downloaded stuff there is different than asking a bot to pull it to there; perhaps that's what's at work.

I'm actually doing this on my laptop as training for my Nav computer, which has an older version, and charts in several locations as a product of MaxSea and Cap'n, both of which I used previously, and I was trying to take advantage of the auto-update feature in the newer version (I had a seminar with him at the SSCA annual meeting, and he's moored two boats over from us in Vero - but I hate to bug him directly...).

So, perhaps I'll try moving all into a C:/charts directory (just relocate/index, actually, as that already is in my OpenCPN folder) and see what happens.

Well, if you simply accept the defaults from the plugin, it places your charts into a decent location... At least I thought so when I wrote it.

Well, at this moment, it brings up the old location, despite my having moved it to a root position.

And, they do seem to be downloading.

LOTS of them, so it will be a while until I see the end result. More later...

But I can't seem to get the level of detail and depth of info (for that matter, depths where we are right now, in Vero Beach) that I'm accustomed to seeing in my Nav computer version.

I don't think any charts from New York have potential to add detail to Florida...
IMO what you see is exactly the detail the NOAA charts for the area contain (As you can confirm at NOAA ENC® Online if unsure).

Well, no - but that was just one of thousands of files being updated or whatever it was at the time.

As my Nav computer is off currently I don't know what files I used there; maybe cm93s from Maxsea?

What are your vector charts settings? What display category are you using?
It's all explained in the manual.
