Spanish coast electronic chart service

You can find updated ENC charts in the Oficial Gov site:

Instituto Hidrográfico de la Marina - Visualizador

It is possible to access via WMS, and I was able to download some, but only thought Oruxmaps (android).

I don't know if it is possible to do it from OpenCPN.
That would be great!

Hello Sonia,

I also would be interested in official ENC charts of Spain for Ocpn. How could you download the charts?

I don't know how to download them for OpenCPN. I wish someone here could explain if WMS feeds are possible to interface.

All I was able to do was to download parts to cache in OruxMaps for Android thought "online maps".

Good luck!

If there is an explanation how to download the charts, I would love it.

The http for the WMS server?

OCPN does not support a direct access to WMS servers. Would be nice feature for sure.

From the WMS access it should be possible to create georeferenced raster charts in BSB format (.kap)

For private use and without distributing the charts - from the "Terms and Conditions" on the upper right side of the page.

The result will not be an ENC nor a RNC, but a quite good background or update chart.

For example one can't query the characteristics or properties of an object on these home-brewn charts. The online visor does allow this for example.
Or change the visibility of object types. Or change caution depths.

On the other hand an official RNC will bring the property information for objects, like the colors and periods of a lighthouse, range and sectors.

The "?" on the page will download a pdf manual for the site (in Spanish).

But very interesting. We shall see what we can get from this!

This is a Map-server and Visor, and you will not find something like a "map-downloader". The visor does compose the chart s"on-the-fly" from the underlying chart objects data map.
For a WMS server one can define queries to get georeferenced areas with the objects one is asking for. Or layers the server is offering.
If your WMS client allows to store the resulting maps it would be possible to convert into OCPN raster charts in the BSB format.
Or in a future directly into a mbTiles chart.

Re: Spanish coast electronic chart service

The access and the available services are explained here:

IDE-IHM (English)
IDE-IHM (Español)

The Spanish page includes a longer tutorial how to use the WMS and WFS services, for example the Visor, but as well a good introduction how to use the server to create data layers in QGIS.
