Dutch Rijkswaterstaat maps

Hi,

The Dutch Rijkswaterstaat issues enc maps which work perfectly with opencpn.

I have one problem with the maps and I do not know if it is related to the map or to opencpn. I asked them already and would also like to hear your opinion here.

The problem: When I add vector text to the maps all bridge and city names are added to the map which is great, but this option also adds the text clr 0.0 on many places on the map which is disturbing and I cannot remove this. It seems to be in the "bridge" catagory, and removing the check box on the "bridge" removes this text but also removes the bridge drawing form the map.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens? I do not have this issue on the German maps.

I attached a screenshot on which the issue is visible.

Regards,
Andrew

Re: Dutch Rijkswaterstaat maps

I think it refers to bridge clearance, probably set to zero.

Re: Dutch Rijkswaterstaat maps

Indead looks like bridge clearance. At the bridge that is correct, but all the clr 0.0 where there is no bridge should not bee there.

ehlen000...

Welcome to the Forum.

Are these Dutch ENCs available for download? Can you give us a link for testing?

Thanks
Dave

Hi,

The download link for all Dutch (the Netherlands) maps is here:

ENC - Fairway Information Services

You can click the linkt called "ENC Kaarten Nederland 2012"

The coordinates where my screenshot refers to are 51 09.5032 N, 5 53.0828 E

PS. this page also links to the ENC's for several surrounding country's

Kind regards,
Andrew

ehlen000...

Thanks for the link. I downloaded the Nederland ENCs, and went to the location you mentioned.

At each point where a "clr 0.0" text is shown, there is indeed a bridge object with "zero" clearance.

There is not too much OpenCPN can do about this, The attribute "clr 0.0" is encoded in the ENC by the cartographers. We do not want to allow OpenCPN to "edit" this data in any way. We can and should show the cartographer's instructions verbatim. There is potentially useful information in the assertion that there is an impassible bridge in a particular location. Not even a canoe could pass.....

It would be possible to edit chartsymbols.xml, to remove the bridge clearance report from ALL bridges. I don't think we want that in general, but maybe you do for your own use.

Comments?

It seems to me that there are too many of them to be real bridges. Could it mean that there is 0m clearance somewhere upstream (or downstream) on that waterway, or that there is a floating obstruction nearby ???
Now, did you notice that there is a link to OpenCpn on the download page ?
ENC - Fairway Information Services
The Rijkswaterstaat might then be willing to answer that question...

Also I sent the link to this thread to Rijkswaterstaat and asked them to look at the discussion. working together is always in everyones advantage :-)

Re: Dutch Rijkswaterstaat maps

I had a quick look at a couple of the charts, and I think there is a problem with, what exactly constitutes a bridge. A lot of the "vertical clearances" belonged to, what i would guess, are jetties or similar. They where treated as "half-bridges" jutting out into the river!

Kees..
Thanks, a really nice link! Even though I've had a lot of Dutch contacts my understanding of the Dutch idiom is not the best. A lot of it is understandable though. But.. Could you help me to find a link to charts covering also the whole standing mast route? Neither Zeelands nor Inlands charts are showing the parts east and southwest of Leuwarden. CM93 is not either aware of any navigational waters here. But you maybe not need a chart? Just follow the "road signs" from Delfzijl?

Håkan

For " Staande Mast Routes" have first a look at
Staande Mastroutes - watersport - nieuws - watersportwinkel
to decide which one(s) you want.
A pretty good paid guide can be found at
Wateratlas ANWB Staande Mastroute | WatersportAlmanak WatersportWinkel
and a free guide at
